How to discipline myself at the poker table?
How do i do it i cant seem to discipline myself when it comes to poker meaning telling myself im beat but calling anyway. Had pocket queens the other day and raised and about 5 limpers im in the sb with $10 in a 0.5/0.10 game and raise it to .70 i get one caller from a guy i know is a total idiot flop comes ace high and he moves all in I told myself im beat but somehow ended up calling. You would think that hitting a fold button would be a little simpler.
How do i Stop myself doing this? Has anyone else ever had this problem? |

Re: How to discipline myself at the poker table?
I think this problem largely comes from thinking something like, "I had the best hand preflop, how could he be beating me now?" Because when I tilt and spew, it goes something like that.
One answer I use is to almost never say, "I'm way ahead," when you haven't even seen a flop. You have QQ. Good, play that hard, but be very cognizant that hand values are fluid. Once you see an A-high flop, don't think "I have QQ," think, "I have second pair." Second pair isn't a hand you want to go to war with, right? So don't! And it's easy to see that you shouldn't when you're honest about where your hand stands. |

Re: How to discipline myself at the poker table?
Yup, did something similar a couple of days ago; had JJ preflop, raised, got 1 caller. Flop comes Kxx and there I was thinking 'ok if he has a K I'll eat my hat'. Lost the pot to AK, but I don't have a hat so I raged instead.
Then again I was playing at around 2am when I was dead tired, but thought what the heck I'll have a quick game. Never again ._. |

Yeah, every time it's, "There's no WAY he has a _____!"
He does. Seriously. |
