nl2000 AKo
Blinds: $10/$20
8 players Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is UTG+1 with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG folds, Hero raises to $70, 3 folds, Button calls, 2 folds. Flop: 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($170, 2 players) Hero bets $125, Button calls. Turn: K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($420, 2 players) Hero checks, Button bets $255, Hero calls. River: 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($930, 2 players) Hero checks, Button bets $655, Hero calls. Results: Final pot: $2240 effective stacks 2k. I played 3-4hours and build up a nice stack 6k.played tight, nothing special, using often pot-control. I like my line. Its looks like i am scared off the King. So he will start to bet many hands( he floats a fair amount) on the turn. I cant say anything to his river bet. I guess i have to give him credit for a value bet. What is more important for you: Betting the turn for value and information or checking to induce bluffs(and stopping possible floats in the future by villian). With the turn check i create a tougher river spot for myself imo. |

Re: nl2000 AKo
I like it. I think with the turn check, you're creating an easy spot in that you plan on check-calling, unless a J comes on the river. I think this is a good line, albeit maybe slightly higher variance than a bet/fold line on the turn and river.

Re: nl2000 AKo
I like how you played this hand.
[ QUOTE ] What is more important for you: Betting the turn for value and information or checking to induce bluffs(and stopping possible floats in the future by villian). [/ QUOTE ] You can't always take the same line, but by default I like checking the turn to induce bluffs, stop possible floats in the future by villian, and keep the pot from getting to be stack-sized by the river. Also, if he checks behind on the turn, many times a hand with less than a pair of kings will call a bet on the river thinking that they'd induced a bluff from you on the river. [ QUOTE ] With the turn check i create a tougher river spot for myself imo. [/ QUOTE ] Only if he pushes or overbets. Then you have a tough decision because he either has nothing, or a hand that crushes yours. But if he makes a 3/4 or pot-sized bet, then you can call and be ahead often enough to have it be +EV IMO. Sometimes bet/fold is good on the river is good, but that kind of blocking bet is often so obvious that good players might bluff raise it on the river. So, while its true that versus some players, a bet fold on the river is good, I think I'd like a read that he's not the kind to bluff raise blocking bets at this level before making too many blocking bets. That leaves check/call - paying off better hands, but inducing bluffs (or even thin value bets from hands that incorrectly think they are better than yours) on the river. So, by default, I think c/c here is good. And b/f is the secondary line versus fairly predicable players who usually call with 1-pair hands and don't bluff raise. |

Re: nl2000 AKo
What do you expect to get value from though? KQ float? There were no draws on the flop.
