Great read, well written.
I read a story of a german soccer goal keeper in England in the 1950s once who broke a vertebra in his neck during an important game and continued playing until the end. These stories are always impressive. |

good read, would recommend.
However, does this story remind anybody of the "ipot bangs highschoolers TR" thread from BBV4lyfe? Something about the writing style made me think of that story, nothing in the actual story. ok im done. |

there is a large staging section where tons of ppl sit around adjusting their bindings and pretending they are about to attempt an inverted 720 backside tail grab when in reality they are prolly going to snowplow their way to the bottom. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] after the first day of recovery i could eat and drink again but no solid foods so i had a lifetime supply of orange sherbet, apparently the hospital had an exclusive sponsorship deal with the flavor orange so that was the only option [/ QUOTE ] You write gooooood. Awesome story! |

good read. I have a stupid but serious question. At the time of breaking your neck, you don't really mention any pain...yet everytime I think about breaking my neck on a ski jump, I immediately wince at the thought of being in what I assume to be excruciating pain.
So, is the pain as bad as I think it'd be, or do you not feel as much as one would expect? |

Great story RBK. Though I have had my fare share of yard sales off the disgustingly large kickers they have made at Brighton (Utah) and Kirkwood (Tahoe), I have always been fortunate to be able to crawl my way to the side before spitting up blood and mending my cracked ribs.

It would seem your body could only be in shock for so long - and then would fast come the moment you wished you were dead. |

sick story, when u say u did the backflip...was that by design, or were u leaning back as u went up the steep ramp?
I have a similar story but i walked away much better than you did. I was bombing a big table, i overshot everything and landed o ground that wasnt steep enough, on impact i sustained compression fractured to L2 and l3 vertebrae...my friend caught it on his digital camera, which is the coolest part of the story i think. No surgery required, healed itself with some bedrest...sitting down sucked for a month tho...loottttaaa poker |
