I bought her ring in Aruba for 10K. I got a free gold band in the deal.

So 10,000/0.

It was appraised way higher (like 2.5x) back here, but I have come to realize that higher appraisals are just a way of ripping people off so that they will have to pay higher insurance premiums.

It's also a way of making sure you can replace the ring if it gets stolen in five years and diamond prices have gone up.

I have this unspoken notion of
1)losing ring,
2)claiming insurance money,
3)going to aruba and buying same ring,
4)pocketing difference in cash.

but probably get nailed again by higher premiums or some such.
