Re: Best/Worst Video Game Endings Ever
[ QUOTE ]
This guy is no where near as good as the original. [/ QUOTE ] QFT. What kind of [censored] uses cheat code to get through a video review? [ QUOTE ] You guys are totally missing the most obvious choice. Ghost and Goblins. You beat the [censored] game, only to be told you have to play it through again to actually beat it(save the princess). [/ QUOTE ] Super Ghouls and Goblins is way worse. Not only do you have to play through it twice, the ending babbles on and on about the [censored] weapon you had to double back for. |

Re: Best/Worst Video Game Endings Ever
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] You liked HL2? Man, I came in here to nominate it for one of the worst. You go through all this trouble to get to the final boss, but then in the last level, you get a weapon so powerful as to make the whole thing trivially easy. Then, once you finally accomplish you're goal, you blow up anyone you remotely cared about, if it all wasn't just a dream. [/ QUOTE ] Second your nomination. The ending was so bad (for the reasons you set forth), I've never even bothered picking the sequels. [/ QUOTE ] I see your points, but I really enjoyed the last hour or so of HL2. I'm not exactly skilled at first person shooters, and for me it was fun to have an awesome weapon and just enjoy watching the story unfold. Maybe I'd have been more disappointed with it if I completed it when it first came out. Since I only completed it today (Orange Box), I was able to move straight onto Episode 1. |

Don't forget the bubble bobble fake ending, where you have to go back and have a friend available to play towards the real ending.

Re: Best/Worst Video Game Endings Ever
HL 2's ending was so freaking awesome.
Halo 1 was really excellent. Bioshock is a game that within 15 minutes of starting I knew it would be one of my top 5 favorite games of all time, and it didn't disappoint one bit, but the ending definitely left something to be desired. The group of people who made such an awesome game in so many ways definitely could have thought of something better. |

Re: Best/Worst Video Game Endings Ever
I liked Starcraft's storyline before and during the game so I'll throw that in there. Red Alert's was pretty good too.

Re: Best/Worst Video Game Endings Ever
[ QUOTE ]
MGS - Great Ending MGS2 - Horrible Ending [/ QUOTE ] MGS had my favorite video game plot. BEST MGS2 was the stupidest thing ever. When Jack and Rose hugged at the end, I had no clue what was going on. So was Rose a robot or a spy or a computer program or what? WORST I play a lot of games with little or no plot, so that's all I've got... |

Re: Best/Worst Video Game Endings Ever
Donkey Kong's fake ending and real ending were both pretty good.
I really like the music for the end of Mario 64. Kind of joyous and sad at the same time. Portal's ending theme is just perfect. |

Re: Best/Worst Video Game Endings Ever
Dwarf Fortress. Once you get past the fact that it's ascii graphics it is a remarkably complex game. You set up this elaborate fortress, get your economy going, etc all the while mining deeper and deeper into the mountain. You set up elaborate traps, drawbridges, retracting bridges, irrigation systems. You channel magma through the mountain and set up floodgates to flood key rooms when the goblins and trolls come to siege. Finally you reach the most precious veins of adamantine and begin mining it furiously creating all sorts of things from it - weapons, armor, goblets, tables, doors, thrones...
Then suddenly the game is over and you see this: |
