Re: 27T: Call river shove on possible straight board?
villain is so short that block bet makes very little sense. I probably c/c riv. Hard to see villain here with a 3 in his hand so maybe villain has like 78s. Hard to put him on a straight tho so I probably don't fold here since the pot is so big and he'd have to have a pair and catch a str8 draw on turn...

Re: 27T: Call river shove on possible straight board?
I suppose the block bet on the river may stop him from shoving with a hand like QJ,QT. I think I would call in this situation, although it would probably be only a 50/50 in my own mind whether the villain was bluffing. I would also be interested to know what he was holding in the end if you called.

Re: 27T: Call river shove on possible straight board?
I would check/call this as there is a lot of hands here that you are ahead of still that could play like this.
Missed flush with Qh, 64 has OESD on the flop just made 2 pair, Q4,Q5,Q6, 99-JJ (questionable but possible). |

Re: 27T: Call river shove on possible straight board?
surprisingly enough, this line even against someone with not a ton of chips is a bluff a lot or some really dumb value bet. if he played any 3 or 8 like this, he basically sucks, so id just c/c river readless.

Can't see 33 calling on the flop. 88 maybe.
Many more hands that you beat than 88 are in this hand. So I like the way you played it. |

Re: 27T: Call river shove on possible straight board?
I hate these situations, but it's something where level 1 thinking kinduv takes over: I have too strong a hand to fold here. I don't know how to "fix" this line of thought, but I just never fold here given these stacks.

Re: 27T: Call river shove on possible straight board?
The "fix" here usually lies in the betting amounts, but TFG's bet sizing looks ok to me. I suppose you might bet pot on turn, but he bet close, and that doesn't really make river that much easier. Unless villain has 68s or 89s as a total donk, Q8s also as a donk, 88, or a set (should have raised turn, so I'm ruling this out), we are good. Since 88 is the only real hand I fear here, I think we can call this profitably, as shorties love to shove all in when they have no other way to win the hand. Also, I agree with c/c on river, as blocking here should stop all pure bluff attempts and you'll still have to call when he shoves without a sick read.

Re: 27T: Call river shove on possible straight board?
These guys who are a little short already are more likely to be bad, and the board isn't really bad unless he called the flop with a gutshot or some unlikely hand like Q8 or something. So I would never fold if I check and he shoves but don't want to give a showdown to hands I beat, so I just shove river and expect to get called by worse.
