Re: my last post about this ever i promise.
Haven't read this in detail, but just wnodered if it had occurred to you that simply accountancy is a bad choice and you might be happier in a different job. ie plan C - not accountancy, not poker |

why did you get the job in the first place? [/ QUOTE ] it seemed like the right thing to do, plus it was back in january and i expected the games to dry up massively. [ QUOTE ] don't quit it now. in a weeks time you will no longer be running red hot and will think 'ugh wtf did i do' [/ QUOTE ] this is what ill be doing i think, i should try and balance both for a while till i can see how both are going more clearly. [ QUOTE ] I don't get what the problem is? Don't you believe in yourself? Do you feel you got lucky over the last 80k hands? [/ QUOTE ] for sure ive been on the right side of variance the last 80k hands, but i think $350/hr or so is a good estimate over an hourly rate. i just dont know if ill be able to do that in 3-4 years time. [ QUOTE ] ie plan C - not accountancy, not poker [/ QUOTE ] if there was a job out there which paid well and i didnt mind doing, for sure, but there is nothing out there which fits the bill imo. anyways, thanks for all your replies, it really has helped me. my action plan will be to try and pass the exams i have a week tomorrow and in 3 weeks time, see how poker is going, and see if ive been able to devote time to studying. i think i shouldnt make a decision yet, and i need to see how both are panning out over the longer term. ill stop posting now about my job. thanks a lot for your time and thoughts, back to me posting in the [censored] thread about my downswing (im about to have) |

haven't read any of the replies really but poker isn't going anywhere, having a 3 year gap on your resume is really ugly

I had writted something about my story, but I deleted it. Remove all money related thoughts from your decision process, and do whatever you come up with. Basing your "life path" on a $ sign is the quick road to an unhappy existence.

Re: my last post about this ever i promise.
Poker life is unglamorous, but simple and gives a sense of freedom and control that other jobs probably wouldn't give. I've come to meet quite a few poker players now and I've found that the ones that don't sweat their hourly rate or w/e are the ones that do the best and are happiest.

Re: my last post about this ever i promise.
Here is my quick response:
Obviously, you have to figure this out on your own. I am currently on a leave of absense from my life as a "young professional" (engineering). I absolutely LOVE the lifestyle playing poker professionally has afforded me. That said, I did very well in school, I have 3 years experience, and I am leaving with a good relationship with the company I worked for. I am not burning any bridges. <---Thrilled to be a pro poker player |

[/ QUOTE ] i like this post most! op you have a lot of more options: 1) you can work half day in a job what you like, even it is a social thing. the other half-day you play poker 2) you get a job what you like, and play poker besides 3) you play only poker good luck! |

Re: my last post about this ever i promise.
the only other thing is, you basically melt down after having a 2-buyin downswing.
now granted, you must be playing on a euro site that is really easy compared to FTP or PS, but it seems like if you have a real downswing, -10 buyin days, etc. you'll be a mess. |
