Re: Noise Machines (Kind of an extension of my sleep post)
I use a program called Soundmaster Deluxe. It has a ton of white noise options and you can get really elaborate with customizing. I bought it a couple of years ago and cant remember how much it costs. Something like $20-$30 and it was well worth it. Lately my speakers have been messed up so I've just been using a really powerful loud fan.

I love these things. I always use the white noise setting since the other sounds get annoying and the white noise seems to block out a greater range of sounds.

I use this:
http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/ca.../sku__SI677PLT It has a "rain" setting that I really like, but lately I've been hooked on "campfire". I've used mine every night for about 2 years, can't vouch for it enough. GL. |

I think earplugs are way better for your apartment neighbors than one of these machines for sleeping. [/ QUOTE ] I have an assh*le neighbor that plays some sort of rap music/jungle sounds all night. When it gets too loud, I play my Machine Gun Magic VHS tape with the bass turned up. Nothing like the sound of .50 cal to lull me to sleep. |

Re: Noise Machines (Kind of an extension of my sleep post)
I have always had an idea to invent earplugs with mini speakers in them that doubled as alarm clocks. Mostly because I love sleeping with earplugs but can't wear them during the week or else i miss my alarm. Boooo. SOMEONE MAKE THESE ALREADY, with bluetooth it shouldnt be super hard.

Even better, a soundproof cocoon that goes around your bed.

Got this at Brookstone recently; it has a lot of different setting and works well, although I think it's stupid to put a bright blue light on something designed to help you sleep. |

I need to figure out a way to make my DVR actually shut up. The hard drive noise keeps me awake.

Re: Noise Machines (Kind of an extension of my sleep post)
Living in NYC, having some sort of white noise machine is a must. I typically put a small desk fan on the lowest setting and it works great.
I also have a playlist on my iPod that has all of my chill music. I always play it whenever I'm drunk and I instantly fall asleep. |
