Re: Updated Cliff Notes On Absolute Poker Scandal (18th October)
cosi & others,
I appreciate your view on Mark Seif. Since I'm obviously liable for things that I say (as my name is very real and very closely associated with much of this), I want to keep the focus on things that we can talk about as being believable beyond all reasonable doubt. I recognise that you believe that Mark is likely to look bad as a result of this. I'm interested in focusing this discussion on things we can prove rather than suspect. Obviously, this is an internet discussion board. It is not possible to stop discussion of rumour, innuendo and speculation - however, to the casual reader, I think it is important to distinguish between fact and opinion. |

[ QUOTE ] Doing some Googling for news on this (a number of hits now) I ran across this item. Wouldn't have thought twice but considering what's been going on and the Montana connection, I thought this was interesting. [ QUOTE ] Published: Tuesday, October 09, 2007 Online-Casinos.com MONTANA ONLINE POKER PLAYER STRIKES GOLD IN ABSOLUTE DREAM PACKAGE No more big tourney buy-in worries for MCBill.... Montana resident and online poker player "MCBill" probably feels like he's struck gold this week after winning access to a possible over $100 million in online poker tournament prize pool money. Absolute Poker revealed that the online poker player hailing from Helena, Montana has won the 5th Absolute Dream Package on October 7th. [/ QUOTE ] Note: Not implying anything here. Just an interesting news item. [/ QUOTE ] Okay. I wasn't going to post this earlier. But I think it's worth at least a mention. There is a william willis mcmahon listed in Scott's frat buddies. There is a william/willy mcmahon that cross references to the hendon mob database. I have no idea if this connects at all. He is listed out of Atlantic City in that db. I went looking thru all the frat buddies hours ago for any connections like that and sat on it because it (still) has no real meaning. But that screen name and real name suddenly looks a tad strange with that DB and big win at AP doesn't it? can anyone dig further into that? fwiw- in the frat records mcmahon is listed as being from missoula. Also- an apparent new account at Absolute. [/ QUOTE ] McBill seems like a pretty reasonable sn for someone with that name. Can someone please add this sn to the list we'd like the auditors to check? http://www.absolutepoker.com/tournam...come-true.html Over the weekend, Absolute Poker made one more poker player's dreams come true. "MCBILL", a new player to Absolute Poker, was the lucky winner of the 5th Absolute Dream Package. ... The biggest difference with MCBILL is that he comes from a different generation of poker. MCBILL started almost 10 years before CUTIEPI314 was even born. From the very beginning, MCBILL was hooked on poker. His first real win came in college when he played a 5/10 game and took home $700. From there to here he has studied the art of cards and has become a very successful high limit cash game player. MCBILL has played in WPT and the WSOP over the years but credits himself to be a better cash player. Cash or tournament play, MCBILL brings confidence to the table. HendonMob? This guy would probably good enough to win w/o making it so obvious. |

Why Deny Ability to See Hole Cards?
Why do they deny that it's feasible that someone might find a way around security to access hole card information?
Countless times in the past, there have been examples of rogue programmers putting backdoors into software that they write, breaking encryption schemes that were thought to be 100% secure, and insiders using priviledged connections/computer accounts on the inside to compromise security. I feel like all they did was log into the accounts in question and see that play looked "normal" to them, when in reality one or more players probably either was relayed hole card information from elsewhere, or a smart enough rogue programmer would make his account have some special "hot key" that put it into super user mode, so that it looked normal to AP's staff if they logged in. For example, you login as user #363, then hold down the CTRL and ALT keys while you type in "MAXIMUMPWNAGE" to put the account into super user mode. Edit: Also, why not just say "Our system is carefully designed to make it impossible for anyone to see another user's hole cards. We are confident in this, however the recent allegations are troubling enough that we will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter". That way they don't look like idiots when it's found out that hole card info WAS out there, and they also don't get all of us angry/frustrated by making it sound like we're idiots for even suggesting that hole card info could have been compromised. |

[/ QUOTE ] 'cause they've been accused of this countless times in the past by clueless muppets. So many morons have cried 'Wolf' that when someone genuinely cries 'Wolf' they instinctively pay no attention. This time is different because it is based on evidence and logic. |

Been said many times already but big thanks/respect to everyone putting this "case" together. Keep digging. |

Re: Updated Cliff Notes On Absolute Poker Scandal (18th October)
Suzzer.
I've backed away from that for now. There is a four year gap in the frat join dates- and while that doesnt preclude them knowing each other- we have no way of knowing if the william mcmahon listed is the one in the Hendon Mob base, nor any reason at this point I guess to suspect it would be the winning account. There are McBill's active at Pokerstars and Full Tilt. If anyone knows those players- perhaps they could get him to confirm/deny he is the winner at Absolute which would help obviously. That said I will be gone for long stretches of the day so I'm glad I at least threw it out there. EDIT: Suzzer- it was that release and the existence of clear winning McBill's on other sites that brought me to a dead halt on even looking further. |
