No one that watched the TEN/TB game thinks Collins>Young or that Young even played poorly. Most of his throws were for first downs, the interception was at the end of first half in a situation where team was unlikely to score--he shouldn't have thrown it but didn't hurt too bad. His best reciever is Eric Moulds until Jacobs returns. Both LenDale White and Chris Brown are pathetic. I like his offensive line.

He played well against Tampa. Two weeks ago he was dreadful and nearly lost the game.

Are you really a bust when everyone thinks you suck?

[/ QUOTE ]

i never said he was a bust, i'm just saying that just cuz the USC defense couldn't touch him doesn't mean he can escape madden.

[/ QUOTE ]

He paid for half my new car in the USC game and other half last year. He can win a game on Mars.

I mean cover, of course. Not win.

Eddie George had the best year of his career when he was on the cover of Madden.

Ooops

Yea but he was old to be fair. Ray Lewis is the only other player who had a good year though.

They should just put Peyton Manning/Tom Brady on the cover every year, curse talk would end real quick.

Am I the only one that remembers how bad the Titans were pre Vince, and how they are favorites to make a Wild Card with Vince Young? Not to mention the Titans might have the least amount of offensive talent in the entire NFL outside of Young.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is my original post. The point of this post is to oppose the comments that VY "sucks." I understand that the Titans strength is their defense, this isn't a hard concept to grasp. My point is that VY has zero offensive talent. They have the worst receiver/te group in the NFL, and one of the worst groups of RB's, yet the team still wins with him at QB. The point of saying this, is that if he was an awful player, with no offensive weapons, and a great defense, they would still lose games. Obviously he isn't one of the best qb's in the league, my main point if that he has nothing to work with offensively and he is getting ripped when his team has a 11-7 record with him through 18 games starting in the toughest division in football.

Obviously the defense is the main reason that they are winning games, but he has still had a positive influence on the teams win loss record, and this is without very little help on offense. I don't understand why this is a view that so many people are coming down so hard on.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you think it is possible that Vince Young HURTS the teams chances to win and they still manage to win? I don't mean is it likely, just is it POSSIBLE?

[/ QUOTE ]

No.

vhawk, I like you, but your analogy to yourself and the internet is terrible.

QB is the most important position in the NFL and a good QB can drastically improve a team just by himself.

The Titans were AWFUL before Vince took over the starting job. Now they are a playoff contender.

I'm not aware of any significant personnel upgrades the Titans made in the offseason; in fact, they lost their best defensive player (Pacman Jones).

Vince may not have the XQL rating or the DPOZ quotient of some of the other QBs, but he is a HUGE part of the Titans' turnaround.

The point wasn't to prove he was not responsible for their turnaround by comparing him to me. The point was just to show that you CANNOT simply use the results correlation to prove he IS responsible. You have to have the correlation, but you have to ALSO have some argument or mechanism for how he positively effects the team. Real arguments. Not that he has calm eyes or exudes winner-pheromones. They don't have to be entirely stat-based arguments, especially because football stats are in their infancy compared to baseball stats and we just don't have great ways to evaluate individual contributions. But you HAVE to have something more than just the correlation with winning.

I have a theory that Madden got the curse unintentionally and is trying to perpetuate it. Hence putting guys like Shaun Alexander on the cover.

In the 3 games Kerry Collins started last year, the Titans were blown out by one of the best teams in the league (San Diego) and lost by 1 score to New York and Miami.

In the 13 games Vince Young started:

They were blown out by Dallas, Jacksonville, and New England.

They lost by 1 score to Indianapolis and Baltimore.

They beat by 1 score: Washington, Houston, Houston, Giants, Indy, Jacksonville, Buffalo.

They blew out: Philadelphia. This is the game where McNabb went down for the season. Vince Young completed 8 passes for 101 yards and ran for 49.

This isn't to say Vince Young didn't play pretty well, but they won 7 of their 8 games by a combined 25 points. Their one big win didn't have much to do with Vince Young - they got two return touchdowns.

[/ QUOTE ]

I also like JoA, but I hate posts like this. Who FREAKING CARES that Vince didn't blow out anybody? This is not college; there are no pollsters to impress.

The point is that the Titans, w/o VY, were 0-3 and looked like maybe the worst team in the NFL. He lost his first two starts, and then is what, 11-6 since then?

What else has changed about the Titans since Vince took over? Not much. They could easily have gone 1-15 last year with Collins, instead they almost made the playoffs. It's continued this year.

VY is largely responsible for the Titans' turnaround.

And THIS is exactly why you cannot use the results correlation to prove causation. Because nothing in football happens in a vacuum.
