Actually it isn't. When you have worked with people in the field you come to see a lot of them should not be giving advice because they are pretty wacky themselves. Probably the reason why they become therapists is so they can try to understand their own psychological issues.

Being able to obtain a license does not mean the person should be giving advice. I'm sure people in this thread can give examples of some horrible therapists they have went to. Also, I am not saying all therapists are not in a position to treat patients, but I will say the majority shouldn't.
