wow, interesting gossip that castillo was a negative influence on reyes, he's expendable adn i wouldn't mind seeing a prospect take his place (or at least teach gotay how to play defense)

it would take a miracle, i.e., santana, to get the mets to move beltran and even that is unfeasible as the twins wouldn't want that contract...also, heck, i'd like to see beltran stick around, he's arguably the most valuable player on the team

I heard the interview earlier today. I didn't like how he said he had little to no control over Reyes and Miledge and their "homerun dance" [censored]. He's like well if you don't let the players be themselves then the fans will be all over you too. [censored] that [censored]. They need to mature. He needs to run a tighter ship.

Who cares if they do a home run dance?

Think big picture here, he wants to keep the team on an even keel. Ok to show emotion, but another to show up the opponent.

Totally understand you want to keep players on an even keel. To me, squashing home run celebrations doesn't really do that. If the bullpen could get a [censored] guy out in September, nobody would care if Willie let Jose do HR dances.

I agree, however it does show up the other teams.

trading beltran would be a disaster. you can't get similar value back from a pitcher, period, unless you got lincecum or someone with tons of cheap years ahead.

trading gomez would be great if people will overvalue him.

we must keep alou.

we are dead to rights at catcher next year.

our farm system blows.

there are very few impact free agents, almost none at pitcher.

we are who we are - but that's not a bad thing at all. we ran super [censored] this year at the end, but a few bullpen tweaks will have this team firing again.

I wasn't trying to derail the thread. This is what I should have said in my other posts instead of sarcastic remarks.

Billy Beane, in his famous book, wrote 'Baseball isn't real good for changing people' or something like that. Signing players/trading/etc.. and wanting them to change their personality/technique can only lead to a miserable experience. I am not saying players cannot improve, but trying to get people to change something, that they don't think will help them improve, is a waste of time and possibly talent. And sometimes, changing something can actually make things worse. i.e. Sure guys with high OPS could strike out much less if they changed their swing, but you give up a lot in return. Maybe if Reyes didn't do those dances NYM would be in the playoffs.

are we this depressed that we're even considering the option of trading beltran????

yea, fixing the pen should get the team by for next year, but the starting pitching has to be addressed too as this could be a huge disaster in a couple of years when the vets go/die...

tbh, i'm not sure what to make of the home run dance stuff, plenty of players do it, and while that doesn't neccessarily make it right, it has nothing to do with the fact the mets should have won the division easily this year imo...
