Was it douchy or am I an overanalyzing tard?
I was in a work meeting today with some higher ups (c-level guy and some of his direct reports of which I am one). the meeting is about 2 hours long and people come and go to give their reports and leave. I went first and as I was walking out, another guy who I have been working with more than usual lately gives me the polite half smile that everyone kind of gives each other in these things. I gave him a gentle "shoulder slap" on his right shoulder with my right hand as I was walking out. Kind of a cammradierie "hey buddy" type thing. As I was walking out, I couldn't help but thinking, was that a douche move? Was it appropriate for situation? Even if this guy was a good friend (which he isn't), would it have been appropriate? Am I just an emo over-analyzing douche? |

Considering that I read this three times, and couldn't find the question, it would be reasonable to say that overanalyzing is an issue here.

My workplace is pretty stiff and formal (esp in some of these higher level meetings) and especially so since this is a fairly large company and it gets more formal the further up the chain you go. And this meeting was pretty high.
Meh, prob just over-analyzing. |

Isn't putting your hand on someone's shoulder indicating an implied dominance? For example, how often would anyone pat their boss or superior on the back/shoulder?
Not douchy per se, but a little weird? -ZEN |

Not douchey per se, but a little weird? [/ QUOTE ] interesting, indeed a little weird. I felt awkward immediately after doing it and wondered if I shouldn't have. |

Sexual harrassment, you're getting sued dude.
Naw, relax. You are being emo but what's causing it? Maybe you're not happy at work or worried about job performance? Or maybe you're just a worrier. |

The standard rule of thumb in a business environment is to not touch a coworker/client/etc. unless you are shaking his or her hand. That said, it likely wasn't a big deal and doubt he even thought twice about it.
