Cash is harder than it looks...
I feel like the only time I make any money is if I stack someone and usually I get stacked and I stop playing =(.

I was having the same problem - winning tons of small pots and losing all the big pots. I figured poker was rigged etc. until recently I started figuring out the problem was my game and my style.

I came across This Post from just yesterday in the SSNL forum that sums it up perfectly.

Bottom line: don't be another Fgators...

I feel like I'm missing out by not utilizing AHK scripts and such. Anybody want to spend a few minutes to walk me through it on AIM or something in the next day or two?

I had 18 yesterday according to TM.
(and it was 20 if you go by finish time rather than start time...)
I stopped at that point.

What are some creative ways to motivate you to play more?

Conversation I had with another high school teacher the other day: (He was deciding whether or not to rebuy into the staff NFL suicide pool for another 5 bucks because you can rebuy the first 5 weeks).

Him: Hmm, I dunno let me get back to you guys on it

Me: We all know you don't have $5

Him: Wanna bet? *he pulls it out and hands it over* I make WAY more money than you!
(Note that despite being at the top of the teacher pay grid he has maxed out credit cards and has to make support payments to his ex wife every month)

Me: You sure about that?

Him: YEAH I AM!

Me: I make way more money playing poker than I do at this job.

Him: BUT HOW MUCH DO YOU LOSE?

Sounds like a BBV regular:
1) Spends more than he earns
2) Likes to gamble
3) Boasts about own success; and
4) HOW MUCH DID YOU LOSE?!?!

Gooooood question!

1. Stop tracking profits on a daily basis. Set targets for how many hands you want to play; check your balance to make sure you have the right bankroll, then just grind.

2. Take reward breaks: there is a Moroccan restaurant I love in Arequipa, if I get in more hands than target for a week, I treat myself there.

3. Drop down to a real micro level for a session, max out the number of tables you are playing, and play LAG - it will cost you afew bucks, but it's great fun.

4. Enter the lowest buy-in Omaha hi-lo/Horse/7 card Stud trny's you can find - don't bother to check the rules first, just work it out as you go along. You learn and laugh (and generally bust out pretty soon, so it doesn't take much time)

5. Take your current buy-in and shortstack the highest level cash game you can eg $200 gets you into a $1k 6 max ring, shove from SB/Bn w any two, shove 22+,Ax,sc & sc 1 gappers from any position first to speak. Bust and forget it, double up and run!

6. Read hand discussion on P5s!

7. Watch WSOP ME vids on YouTube and Pokertube.

8. Watch HSP vids esp with Sammi Farha.

9. Read BBV on 2+2.

10. If you're still not motivated, a quick nifty fifty, five fingered hand shuffle will remind you that you are a sad sad person and your only rout out is to win big at poker, SO PLAY!
