Re: Regional Beers and Local Favorites
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Speaking of "super regionals," Lienenkugel's anyone? [/ QUOTE ] I was surprised not to see this mentioned by OP since he was visiting Wisconsin at the time. I'm a big fan of Leinenkugel's. It is fairly popular here in Michigan. I recommend Creamy Dark (draft not bottled, and preferrably in an icy mug - delicious). Berry Weiss is also very good. Sunset Wheat is good and tastes a lot like Fruity Pebbles. It may sound gross for a beer to taste like that, but it is actually quite good. [/ QUOTE ] Berry Weiss is way too sweet to have very much of though. Hvae you ever tried mixing Berry Weiss and Honey Weiss? Delicious! |

[/ QUOTE ] Mr. Gallo, you are the man. For other, smaller, breweries, The Lion in Wilkes-Barre PA has some decent stuff. Their Pocono products (lager specifically) is not too bad. They used to make "Brewery Hill" branded stuff, but I dunno if that's still around....part of me suspects it was transformed into "Pocono", but I am not 100% on that. No matter where I travel, I always look for a local brew to try. Lion's stuff (even Steg) is nothing to move mountains for, but if in the area, it's a decent local swill. Lion Brewery |

Re: Regional Beers and Local Favorites
Cross posted from EDF:
Grunching so I don't know if this beer has been covered, but at my local store tonight I saw a $15 750ML bottle of beer. I believe that you get what you pay for, so I bought it. It's apparently called the Brewmaster's Collaboration Signature Ale. It's labeled with the names Tomme Arthur, Port Brewing; and Dirk Naudis, De Proef Brouweru. There's a goddamn book written on the back of the bottle that I'm not going to summarize, but this beer is fantastic. Smooth and solid but with a little bite, it's got a little of everything I like. Even at this price I think I'll buy more. |

Re: Regional Beers and Local Favorites
Oh, not local to my area at all but if you're anywhere near CT Thomas Hooker is a must. They make excellent beer in nearly any style you can think of. I'm a huge fan of the Oktoberfest, but anything you pick up is going to be awesome.

[ QUOTE ]
Is New Holland bigger than I think? I haven't really seen it outside the Illinois/Wisconsin/Michigan area. Anyway, Madhatter IPA is excellent, and The Poet: Oatmeal Stout is another winner. Linky [/ QUOTE ] Not by much. link I had forgotten about this brewery. I remember some of it being really good and some being a little odd. Any recommendations on MN brews (Besides MGD Light?) that might not be popular in WI? I'm here for the weekend and today is the last day to buy beer. Silly liquor laws. |

Re: Regional Beers and Local Favorites
I've heard Surly was pretty good, but haven't had their stuff and don't know how widely distributed it is. Gotta respect brewers ballsy enough to forgo bottles and succeed anyways, though.
