Re: Fave song lyrics
I just love not only lyrics but the entire construct of this song.

Re: Fave song lyrics
When threads like this come up, I feel compelled to say that Dylan has literally 100s of songs that I would consider to be lyrically genius. So I will submit my choices for non-Dylan tunes.
Pink Floyd, Free Four "The memories of a man in his old age, are the deeds of a man in his prime.... Life is a short, warm moment And death is a long cold rest." And my favourite Grateful Dead lyric, from Scarlet Begonias: "Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right" |

Re: Fave song lyrics
I like the alliteration in this lyric:
Gazing from my window to the streets below On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow In the humor category, I get a kick out of "Bob Rules" by Keller Williams And then of course there's the bungle/patton lyrical odyssey. Probably not suitable for the lounge. |

Re: Fave song lyrics
now the verses i've sang don't add much weight
to the story in my head so i'm thinking i should go and write a punchline... but they're so hard to find in my cosmic mind so i think i'll take a look out of the window... --- Jon Anderson, YES, "Going for the One" 1975 just thought it was hilarious. |

Re: Fave song lyrics
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life. Make me, oh make me, Lord more than I am Make me a piece in your master game plan Free from the earthly tempestion below I’ve got the will, Lord if you’ve got the toe. Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life End over end neither left nor to right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life. Take all the brothers who’ve gone on before And all of the sisters who’ve knocked on your door All the departed dear loved ones of mine Stick’em up front in the offensive line. Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life End over end neither left nor to right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life. Yeah, Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life End over end neither left nor to right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life. |

Re: Fave song lyrics
When we grew up and went to school,
There were certain teachers who would hurt the children anyway they could, By pouring their derision upon anything we did, And exposing every weakness, however carefully hidden by the kids. But in the town it was well-known when they got home at night, Their fat, psychopathic wives would thrash them within inches of their lives. |

Re: Fave song lyrics
Dead Can Dance
The Carnival is Over Outside The storm clouds gathering, Moved silently along the dusty boulevard. Where flowers turning crane their fragile necks So they can in turn Reach up and kiss the sky. They are driven by a strange desire Unseen by the human eye Someone is calling. I remember when you held my hand In the park we would play when the circus came to town. Look! over here. Outside The circus gathering Moved silently along the rainswept boulevard. The procession moved on the shouting is over The fabulous freaks are leaving town. They are driven by a strange desire Unseen by the human eye. The carinval is over. We sat and watched As the moon rose again For the very first time. |
