bet/call the turn, there realistically isn't that much you lose to (think about how many 9x and or 4x hands he has and how they would play the flop).

I definitely prefer a turn bet. He has to put you on {bluffs, straights} and how can you really have a straight hand here? I bet he calls you down with lots of stuff (smaller sets, 2pairs, TT, etc), though you can safely fold to a raise. He'd basically have to credit you for 99 exactly to fold.

Bet the turn small enough that he thinks he has FE and snap call a shove.

what about a real tiny bet and calling a shove? i think its interesting and could induce some stupidity.

if we check behind, i think i'd assume that villain will bluff a blank river often enough that we have to call. Given that we're going to be paying a ~pot sized bet off to a straight no matter what, so if we get our stack in on the turn vs one, w/ our outs to fill up its basically the same.

the responses so far have been about getting value out of the worse hands, but do you really think two pair is gonna fold to a smlal bet on the turn? we're not gonna be getting value out of 1 pair hands no matter what, i dont think.

my default though, and first thought when i read the hand, was to check behind and call/raise river, but i dont think the bet is so horrible (i dont expect to be behind that often, 45 i guess, and maybe A9cc, but what else? the 1 combo of 89?)

I really don't think that people with a single pair or two pair turn their hands into bluffs enough to make this whole play profitable.

I think the notion that betting the turn small to induce a bluff is way overblown. Without much history on a 4 card straight board a person when facing a tiny bet will immediately put an unknown on the straight here (if they don't have it themselves) and read the small bet as a "please call me bet."

In this spot we don't get shoved on by worse nearly enough and for the times we do I think we have to tip our hat because it's a pretty kamikaze.

Personally I like checking the turn for pot control and snapping off rivers (that are preferably not clubs).

Here I fold because it looks like we can't beat a hand from his action.
