Re: NL MVP
That doesn't really indicate that he has average range, just that he is average overall. HBT uses a slightly better version of zone rating that differentiates between outs converted on balls in your zone and ones out of it. His "Revised Zone Rating" is .699, 5th for NL 3b. Miguel is .637 and Chipper is .633. Wright is leading all MLB 3rd basemen in plays made outside of his zone, at 72. 2nd is 56. Miguel has 49 and Chipper has 43.

[ QUOTE ] if he keeps his current pace he'll have .320 / 30 / 100 / 30sbs. i think the 30 sbs puts him over the top for mvp [/ QUOTE ] I would be quite surprised if Wright manages to maintain a .320 average, thought I expect him to hit 30 hr and have 100-110 ribbies. Some consideration also should probably be given to his defense, which has been quite spotty. [/ QUOTE ] His numbers since the ASB: .373 with a .480 OBP and .610 slugging pct. |

Re: NL MVP
Wright's on pace for a 30/30 year and will be in the playoffs.
Cabrera puts up the numbers but the Marlins are so miserable no one cares or notices. Utley and Howard both missed time for injury but still have numbers, but if the Phillies choke on cue in September they might get overlooked. Depending on how the races end up, I think it's between Pujols, Fielder, and Wright. |

Re: NL MVP
A statement about this year's NL MVP race. Jason Stark's article on the candidates from ESPN;
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/column...amp;id=3002888 He lists Utley first amongst candidates. Now, the link to the Sports Nation poll for NL MVP on ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sport...mvptracker2007 Utley's not even offered as a candidate. Made me laugh a little. |

Re: NL MVP
You really need to clarify if you're trying to have a post about who we think should be the MVP or about who we think the writers will pick for the MVP. In the second case, I agree we can discard anyone not on a playoff team but if you want to have a real "value" discussion then you shouldn't exclude them.
