USA today story on bots, poker and money laundering
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/co...g_N.htm?csp=34
sigh. my favorite quote involved this nifty bit of bot-detection logic: "The bots are prevalent," says Anna Calder, an online poker player from Canada, where such gambling is legal. "If you suspect you're playing a bot, you send an (instant message) and attempt to chat with them. They usually don't reply, but some are programmed to respond, "I do not chat." |

Re: USA today story on bots, poker and money laundering
"Cybercrooks use bots to deal winning hand"
haha. man i gotta get me one of those. i could play 1000000000nl and never lose!!!1 edited to add: seeing as i'm from buffalo i did a search for "joseph kelly" he teaches at buff state (not a very good school): ""HIV, Litigation, and Privacy Laws: How They Affect Bloodbanks, Hospitals, Physicians, and Other Providers," Joseph Kelly, PhD, JD, associate professor of business, Buffalo State College. Millard Fillmore Department of Medicine Grand Rounds, Monday, March 6, 8:45 AM. Gates Circle, Webster Hall. For information, contact Jack Freer at 862-6611." i don't see how he is an expert on internet gaming, but then again, i don't see how i'm not either. |

Re: USA today story on bots, poker and money laundering
A close read and the assertions are the dumbest I have read.
Please, if you have an account, if not set one up, and respond to it. my respones: What? Let me try to understand this reasoning. The U.S. cracked down on Online gaming, making it harder to use Credit Cards. The result, an increase from 1:200 to 1:50 scams using these same credit cards to Online Gaming because it is difficult to transfer ‘legitimate’ funds overseas but ‘stolen’ credit cards are easy to open accounts with where-as the actual owner cannot go to the same payment processor and open an account? So, this must be a real BIG conspiracy, the thieves (player and bots) and the payment companies ALL in cahoots? Oh, and lets not forget the 1:50 computers that now have say, Full tilt, Poker Stars or several other programs downloaded into the computer and no one notices the new icons these programs place on the desk top, menu bar and start programs. I think Uriel Maimon needs to stick to writing about blonds and his dating that highlight his blog at: http://www.rsa.com/blog/blog.aspx?author=maimon obg |

Re: USA today story on bots, poker and money laundering
USAToday is an anti-gambling paper. The editorial board has advocated for a long time a freeze on the expansion of gambling in the US. Keep that in mind when you read gambling related articles.

Re: USA today story on bots, poker and money laundering
And that bears on our posting replies to the absurd story how? It is all the more reason to post, I have not seen any 'support' banning internet poker posts in this or the previous USA article, only those opposing the ban. Perhaps they will get a suttle message, their readers are not against playing. obg |

Re: USA today story on bots, poker and money laundering
Absolutely hideous and everyone involved should be embarrassed. The worst I've ever read. Good thing the writing is so poor that no one will actually read the whole thing, or understand it.
Just one message--online poker bad. |

Nothing about posting, just a clue as to why they ran such an awkward, clumsy, and unfactual story.
