$6.5 - AJ in BB
This might be a (very) basic situation and question for you, but i have some trouble playing AJ (early).
I throw away AJ from early position, open raise from late and limp from MP sometimes, during the first levels. Is that any good? In this hand there were 3 limpers and I was in BB, out of position against 2 of them. Should I raise or check here and why? PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t30 (6 handed) by Hand Converter CG UTG (t3515) MP (t1050) CO (t4460) Button (t1315) SB (t1735) Hero (t1425) Preflop: Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 2 folds, CO calls t30, Button calls t30, SB completes, Hero ??, 2/3 players left to act |

Re: $3.4 - AJ in BB
No you shouldn't raise, you're out of position for all the streets where the big money goes into the pot.

Thanks for commenting on my hand.
Can someone perhaps also comment on my question on top? |

Re: $3.4 - AJ in BB
You probably have the best hand, but you are OOP and aren't going to like your hand on the flop most of the time.
One general thing to keep in mind in the early stages of these things is that because of ICM considerations, you don't want to play big pots with slight edges, even if you know you are getting the best of it chip wise. |

Re: $3.4 - AJ in BB
FWIW I almost always muck AJo at BB30.
I complete from SB and might limp behind on the button. Or open raise from CO/ button vs tightish blinds. |

Re: $3.4 - AJ in BB
I think mucking AJ at early levels is good (especially OOP). You rarely win big pots with it and chips saved >>> chips won early. But if your in LP raise 3x is fine if your first in for a raise. Check the hand.

Re: $3.4 - AJ in BB
FWIW = "for what its worth"
I think its pretty standard to just muck AJo in most situations, and check when in the blinds unless its BVB. I'm pretty sure theres nothing wrong with open-raising it from CO or button if you can play post flop (for example, not stacking off every time you hit your ace), but I think most good players will tell you not to raise it after any limpers in the early levels. |
