In SF playing US Am
Hey everyone, I'm currently in San Francisco playing in the US Amateur. I'll be here til Friday and am looking for stuff to do. I'll keep yall updated on how I am doing. The first two days are stroke play, and if I make the cut of 64, we go to match play.
Any recommendations of things to see here? I enjoy outdoor stuff like hiking and parks more than the city stuff. Any good places to eat? Thanks. |

Re: In SF playing US Am
Lot of ideas in this thread:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...e=2#Post9183975 If you are staying out near Olympic, you can get BART downtown, lot a good stuff close together. Not much in that thread for suggestions out in your area, I could give a few-- kinda depends on how mobile you are and your interests. Good luck and have fun. |

Re: In SF playing US Am
I had a blast watching the final match at the US Am at Merion in 2005, part of it being how great of a course Merion is.
I'm going to be in the Bay Area this coming week until...any opinions on it being good spectating wise? |

Re: In SF playing US Am
Hey shemp thanks for that thread. Lots of good info there. Although some of those places to eat seem way out of my price range heh. I've got a rental car so I can go almost anywhere. I went to Muir Woods yesterday and went on a hike. Very beautiful.
We have a three hour delay today, so most likely I will end up playing 9 holes today and 27 tomorrow. I would definitely recommend spectating if your in the area. Olympic is probably one of the most courses I have ever seen. It probably won't be that crowded either, so you can roam around as you please. |

Re: In SF playing US Am
If you post a cuisine and a neighborhood you'll be in to that thread, someone will likely help you. There are plenty of cheap eats in this town. The downtown option provides plenty of "urban hiking."
Across the GG to the north there's a ton of hiking in the Marin headlands. I haven't really scanned this, but it's a start: http://www.marintrails.com/index.html You are very close to Pacifica. A nice spot for beginner surfing there. You aren't too far from Half Moon Bay, and there's some hiking options there. There's a short hike around "lands end" that starts out of a parking lot just above the Cliff House. You can easily cut through Lincoln Park GC and explore the Legion of Honor. So do they have you guys on the Ocean course to? |
