Tough spot in tournament
So i enter my second live tournament and was doing reasonably well and was the chip leader on my table. It was still early in the tournament i was at 4350 and blinds were 50/100. UTG+1(stack of 2700) raises to 300 its folded to MP short stack who moves allin for 1250. I look down at AKs.... Action?

Re: Tough spot in tournament
Just go all in, UTG+1's calling range is going to be very narrow (QQ+, AK). If he's looser than that, AK is a good hand in a multiway pot. MP's pushing range is probably pretty wide and you have more than enough equity for this to be +EV.

Re: Tough spot in tournament
In this case, I may go over the top of MP in order to get UTG+1 off the hand. I would be happy to go heads up with AK against a short stack who may be pushing with a mid pair or something. UTG+1 is the one to worry about.

Re: Tough spot in tournament
shove.
try to isolate shorty in case he has AQ/AJ... that said, your play is also +cEV with the dead money if you know that shorty has a pair and is also +cEV if UTG also calls and both have a pair less than kings. pretty much you have an edge vs. any reasonable range so get your chips into the middle. |

Re: Tough spot in tournament
These are the kind of situations AKs is ideal for.
1. You have decent fold equity which will create 450 chips of dead money. 2. Short stack has a wide range. 3. You have only two hands to worry about. 4. You will see all five cards with the best drawing hand possible. 5. You could lose to short stack and still win chips this pot from UTG+1 if he calls. Yummy. |

Re: Tough spot in tournament
Shove. If this is a typical live tourney, the blinds are going to rise fast. Chip accumulation trumps all other considerations when you're far from the money.

Re: Tough spot in tournament
Hey thanks for the advice, i actually did shove. Original raiser calls with AA and short stack has TT and the AA holds up.

Re: Tough spot in tournament
Question: How much more of a decision is this if you're holding AKo?
