I need a laptop that can take a beating...
So I bought a cheap Dell laptop about a year ago. I used the computer pretty much solely to play poker, but I beat the absolute hell out of it. My roomates use it too, so it probably gets twenty to thirty hours of use a week. It's been thrown around during tilt sessions (mostly onto couches), spilled on when I've been playing drunk, taken outside in the rain when I'm drunk and want to smoke cigarettes and don't want to sit out. Anyway, it's completely screwed up, and I need a brand new computer.
I want something really tough / durable / sturdy / great warranty (I vow to treat it better than my old one, but will inevitably beat it up a decent bit), but don't want a Panasonic Toughbook. It pretty much needs to be able to take a beating and just be a pretty good computer. Other than that, I'm not too concerned about fantastic performance / weight / size, just want to make sure I'm getting a good computer for the price I pay. So my price range is around $1,000 - $1,500 and am willing to bend all the way up to $1,750 if I feel like it's worth it for what I'm getting. Any advice? |

Why don't you want the second most obvious answer?

If you're referring to the Toughbook, basically it's just price. I know that this is a great option for what I'm looking for, but wanted to see if there were any other options closer to my price range.
What's the # 1 most obvious answer? I really am pretty clueless on the whole laptop industry. |

Short of expensive toughbooks or other hardened lappies you aren't going to find something that is going to last long being thrown around, spilled on, banged on or taken out in the rain while running. You could try covering most of it in bubble wrap and hope it doesn't cook itself, but really, grow up and learn how to treat your toys. |

Re: I need a laptop that can take a beating...
Fair response. Obviously the best measure is to treat the thing better, and it's definitely a priority, especially in light of my old laptop breaking. I didn't really care at first since it only cost me 500 bucks, but did start to regret having been so careless with it once it broke.
Nonetheless, I'm just looking for computer brands / models that last a long time and can take a beating from a lot of use, travel, etc. Just something sturdy and durable. If anyone has any information on brands or models particularly reputable for being "tough" computers, I'd appreciate it. |

Get an Acer I guess and whenever it rains and you want to smoke butts at the same time just get a new Acer.
