Hate Crime at Pace University...
A man is being charged with two felony counts-Criminal Mischief and Aggravated Harrassment, for throwing a quran in the toilet.
The media irresponsibly published his name and picture in the paper...his life is in some serious danger. This is a severe overreaction and a serious infringement on free speech. I do not support what he did, but this is insanity. LINK |

Re: Hate Crime at Pace University...
Charges and convictions are different stories... obviously this mocks the justice system but nothing will come of it.

Re: Hate Crime at Pace University...
Thought crimes are just and should be punished, as is the case here. First people think evil things, then they do evil things; what we need is more monitoring of the citizens to make sure they don't develop even a hint of anti-social behaviour; luckily we have developed extensive surveillance technology to this end, what with the NSA wire tapping and cameras everywhere in public places.

Re: Hate Crime at Pace University...
If I lived in NY I'd be awfully tempted to organize a mass public Quran dunking demonstration.
It's profoundly hypocritical that dunking a Quran in a toilet can be classified as a hate crime while the Quran is protected from being classified as hate literature. |

Wow
This is why "Hate" Crime statutes have no place in a free society. They punish the thought behind the act rather than the act itself.

Re: Wow
"So there should be no difference considered legally between manslaughter and premeditated, first degree murder?
" To demonstrate premeditation, doesn't the prosecutor have to show some actions before hand that demonstrate the intent? |
