Hell yes. Ann Margret was another winner. [/ QUOTE ] Was Ann Margret Swedish? I wonder why we don't see more Swedish and Danish actresses/models coming to Hollywood these days. If you ask me they are about as pretty as they come. If I were a studio exec I would be over there right now scouting. |

Re: Career Mess-Ups
Stay with me on this, Blarg...my ideas are brilliant.
Instead of spending $170 million dollars on dreck like Evan Almighty, with an established Hollywood "star", all the studios have to do is find the next Ingrid Bergman. You know sort of a scandinavian Scarlett Johannson only with acting talent and a cute accent. Cast her in a movie opposite an unknown sarcastic actor (like a young Mat Dillon/Paul Newman blend) and people will flock to the theaters. They'll flock I tell you. |

Re: Career Mess-Ups
$170 million on that? Oof, that's gotta hurt. That movie sounded like such an awful idea I don't know how anyone could have gone through with it except for not caring about anything but 40 YOV-type returns. But you gotta have something special to get that kind of quality and consumer response going. You can't just throw the star clown in any ole sh*t. Especially if you're going to spend a fortune on it.

Re: Career Mess-Ups
[ QUOTE ]
With a cost of more than $170 million, "Evan Almighty" is widely believed to be the most expensive comedy ever made. Yet, Universal had solid reasons to put its faith in Shadyac given the box office tally for "Bruce Almighty" and for other comedies such as "Liar Liar," which earned $303 million worldwide. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Although it performed strongest of last Friday’s three major studio releases "Evan Almighty" has disappointed its producers, taking in just $32 million over the course of the weekend. (Its predecessor, "Bruce Almighty," made over $70 million on its opening weekend). Part of the reason for the disappointing returns might be Universal’s decision to market the film toward Christian audiences. [/ QUOTE ] Again, if they asked me for advice I would tell them to go find the next Ingrid Bergman. |

Re: Career Mess-Ups
Figures like $303 million wouldn't be that great a return on a $170 million movie. And Jim Carrey is a massive star compared to Steve. He's been opening movies for coming on two decades now. Jim opened ... one.

Speaking of Michael Richards/ Hecklers, [censored]/[censored]/whatever, "George Carlin handles a heckler". It's a pretty strong showing.
