Re: Science quiz linktarding
Don't read this if you don't want me to blow your mind:
Bananas don't grow on trees. They grow in herbs. Think about it, man. EDIT: Oh yeah, I got a 92%. And to those of you that got the rock question wrong....ROFL. |

"Tectonic plates sliding past one another can cause...
1. Volcanoes ... 4. Earthquakes" I don't see why these wouldn't both be correct. |

[ QUOTE ]
There is a plane (Boeing 777, prop plane, whatever) on a moving, conveyor-type runway. The runway moves in the opposite direction of the plane at the exact same speed as the plane's wheels. There is no wind. Can the plane take off? [/ QUOTE ] |

88%--Missed #'s 2, 23 & 26.
I learned something today about Yogurt! I am pretty good with science stuff but in the 8th grade this test seems like it would be tough. |

"Tectonic plates sliding past one another can cause... 1. Volcanoes ... 4. Earthquakes" I don't see why these wouldn't both be correct. [/ QUOTE ] Plates shifting can cause volcanos to erupt but it doesn't create them as the magma coming up through the crust causes that and isn't reliant on plates shifting. That'd be my best guess. |

[/ QUOTE ] yea i got this one correct but definitely would have answered both if it were an option. i am guessing very few 8th grader knew the answer to the question, and far fewer could tell you why sliding faults don't create volcanoes. |

Re: Science quiz linktarding

[ QUOTE ] what's with the answer to that "final velocity" question? it seemed kind of like a trick question, final velocity should be zero right, since it comes to a stop after being dropped? i can't remember the wording but i remember thinking 100 m/s or 0 could be the answer depending on interpretation. Also, "This type of rock is buried deep within the earth's crust" couldn't that question be legitimately answered igneous or metamorphic? [/ QUOTE ] it said what is the velocity as it hits the water, right? there's nothing tricky about that question. [/ QUOTE ] The funny thing, is that this is how Daryn read the question.. I think we all agreee that this is how the question should have been worded to remove any ambiguity, and TEST the matter at hand. Instead some, myself included thought perhaps it was a trick question. I don't disagree that my answer was wrong, but I wouldn't have gotten the question wrong if it was phrased the way Daryn wrote it. |

Re: Science quiz linktarding
96% (i didn't finish reading the question on the traspiration one and picked evaporation before seeing other answers (brainfart))
i don't know what type of schools you guys went to, but this isn't very hard for an 8th grade class in my town (tenafly, NJ.) and i'm gonna go kill myself for not getting 100% side note: i realize in most schools in america this is a hard test for 8th grade but 2p2ers are suposed to be smart... right? and have good memories... even though it's only been 8 years since 8th grade for me, i know it's been longer for lots of you a few comments: -fruit protects the seeds until they are ready to bedispursed, at which point the fruit is also ripe. -the velocity question is worded pooply, but honestly this is not a college physics exam so if you get it wrong you WAY overthought it. -i agree i would pick volcanos along with earthquakes if that was an option but since you can only choose one it's gotta be earthquakes (anyone in california knows this first hand... not many volcanos around but lots of earthquakes ) |
