See a doctor. There are tons of reasons you could be snoring. Being overweight, having a deviated septum, sinus obstruction, soft palate issues....there are tons of things that could be causing this, and it's going to be pretty difficult for you to figure out on your own.

could you lose 10-20 pounds?

[/ QUOTE ]
Not really, I am 6'1 190, could use to lose 10lbs but i was still snooring when I was skinny. According to sorces I am pretty bad, hopefully not as bad as my dad was but who knows. I only snore when I am on my back, I must roll over at night cause I never try to sleep that way.

Breathe Right worked for the ex, not 100%, but a hell of a lot better then what he was doing. Drives me crazy.

The strips or the spray?

[/ QUOTE ]

The strips at first, then the spray, he was trying to get a feel for both of them to see which one worked better and I think it was the strips.

It's absolutely weight related and sleeping on the back is a big no no. I can't tell you how many times I've had to kick him at night and hiss "TURN OVER!!".

The worse news is that after getting rid of him, I got together with another snorer, who is WORSE. Sigh, I get so pissed off when I'm woken up by a snorer. VERY irritating because then you can't go back to sleep.

If you only snore on your back, as ridiculous as this sounds, attach something like a tennis ball to the back of a tshirt and sleep in it. That way, when you try to roll onto your back it will be uncomfortable and you will return to your side/stomach.

This is practical, but lots of times there is an underlying physiological issue. And snoring can be a symptom of something much more serious, like sleep apnea.

lose weight, don't sleep on your back, don't eat or drink copious amounts of alcohol before you go to bed, see a doctor?

Added to your otherwise sensible answer.

lose weight
stop smoking
see a doc (I had surgery on my deviated septum that helped a lot - including the above 2)

...most products like breathe-right strips don't work. I remember using a spray - that was pretty much olive/canola oil.. that kinda worked. My best solution is to get an extra pillow - and hug it while going to sleep so it's more comfortable to sleep on your side.

good luck. When I had surgery - it didn't work right away, but my gf stopped complaining (wtf else am I going to do?). I only really stopped snoring so much when I learned to sleep on my side and gave up smoking.
