mbille,

It was a summer job after my freshman year at college. Most of the summer it pretty much involved stacking pallets of 60lb bags of corn, using a forklift to move the pallet, and then restacking the bags of corn. It sucked pretty hard, but at least for a few weeks of the summer I was in charge of a detasling crew (I really doubt anyone who doesn't live in the midwest knows what this is). During that time at least I was outside in the corn fields.

[/ QUOTE ]

I live in Iowa and know detasling makes bank, but what did you get paid as a crew leader? I've heard of people doing it now and making $23 an hour. That's sick.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you're good, and do it as contract work you could make some pretty insane money for a summer job, much better then 23$/hour, unfortunately I was getting paid by the hour, not by amount of land completed.

I have wondered how easy it is to transition from engineering to teaching - did you have to get an education certificate/degree or pass a test to be able to get into that career?

I started out on clean-up, now I'm washing lettuce. Soon I'll be working the grill and then assistant manager...and that's when the big bucks start rolling in.
