I'm guessing that there are different timespans for getting subsidized phones and contracts ending. Most likely, based on what happened and how long I've been with Verizon, the latter happens one month before the former. All in all, it seems to have worked out pretty well on their part.

Edit: Other than making me really annoyed, of course.

b/c the eligible to renew date is different than the contract expiration date

God I love cell phones outside of the USA. Free incoming, pay-as-you gos are usually in the 30cent per minute range and text messages are free to receive and like 5 cents to send. You have to be seriously addicted to your phone to go over $10/month.
