Re: Weird one - my keyboard doesnt type the right symbols...
[ QUOTE ]
I've been typing on the QWERTY layout way too long to change now. [/ QUOTE ] You shouldn't think that Dvorak will replace your qwerty ability. To a large extent, learning Dvorak is a lot like learning Spanish; sometimes it takes a second for your brain to switch from one mode to the other, but you can effectively speak in each. [ QUOTE ] Besides, I'm left-handed and qwerty really isn't too horrible a layout for a left-hander. A lot of the most common letters are on the left hand. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure this is so convincing. I'm left-handed too. I don't think that moving most of the letters to your primary hand makes it much faster; what Dvorak does to make it faster is move the letters to the homerow and but the vowels on the left and the consonants on the right. This means that you're alternating between hands much more often than contorting one hand. THIS is why Dvorak is faster. Anyway, I don't like Dvorak just because it's faster; I switched because it's more comfortable. Type the word "REVERBERATED" or "STEWARDESSES". All that twisting is less comfortable than if you alternate hands. -Sam |
