another \'put pro gambler on resume\' thread
I know normally it is frowned upon by most 2p2ers to put pro gambler on a resume, but I think my case is different because I am applying for work at a casino. To be more specific, it is a racino with only slot machines in it (no poker or table games of any kind). Not exactly sure what I want to do there yet, but I need to get some kind of job soon. Being a pro in today's gambling climate ain't too easy anymore.
I'm 22 years old and I've been a professional gambler for about 2 years. I didn't file taxes for 2005, but I did for 2006 as a pro gambler. During these two years as a pro I had no other job, but I was in school for all of 2005 and most of 2006. Last time I had a 'real' job was September 2004, so it's either leave about a three year gap in work experience or put that I was a pro gambler for a couple years while being in school. What do you guys think? I was thinking being a pro would help me stand out and maybe could actually help me directly because I can relate more to customers. |

They might also be afraid of you spending time playing instead of working.

Dude, it's a job at a casino. You can't be applying for executive management or anything - so don't stress so much. Put it on. You'll interview, they will see you aren't retarded, etc. and you'll be hired.

Re: another \'put pro gambler on resume\' thread
sounds like a pretty bad idea to me. I generally think it's poor form, but not terrible, here seems especially bad, not many really know what to think of a pro-gambler, and of course it'll make them think you at least potentially are a problem gambler, not really who i'd want working at my casino.

I'd use "Professional Poker Player" not gambler if you do use it. I'm not sure how I'd go on this type of job -- maybe just bring it up at interview or in cover letter.

they will just think you are a roulette player. you expect some random guy who reads your resume to know that poker is a skill game? he'll just think your a gambling degenerate trust me. people have no clue.

yea, silent makes a good point, most people see poker players as people who enjoy mixing it up and don't realize skill makes up a big part of it...imo, keep this off ur resume...

Re: another \'put pro gambler on resume\' thread
I don't think OP is a "poker player" he's a "gambler" like the rest of us degens who make sizable amounts of income from non-poker, non-work (ZOMG you win at horsies, or casinos, or sports?!?!).
I wouldn't you're fairly fresh out of school. |
