Default NE is a superbowl lock.

Great team + did the best in the FA market this year + decent draft + Randy Moss.

I'd take some pretty weak odds on undefeated.

Who knows if Randy is motivated at all. If he's not they are no lock whatsoever

If you throw out some odds on undefeated I'm pretty sure you'll get some action in this forum.

No team with Moss on it will ever win a title.

Definetly not a lock, but I do love Moss. When he is motivated he is one of the best in the game IMHO.

Always amazes me that people think adding a wide reciever is going to make a huge difference.

If Moss has a HUGE day, he gets 10 touches. The guy he replaces probably would have gotten 5.

Be generous and say he's worth a field goal extra a game....just not that big a deal. And who knows if you're going to get "good Randy" or "bad Randy".

Another way to look at it - can you name a superbowl winner whose star player was a WR? Jerry Rice, maybe - OTOH, his QB is going straight to the Hall of Fame, too.....

Those 49er teams were absolutely LOADED:
Montana
Rice
Young
Craig
Tyler
Taylor
Jones
Clark
Watters
Floyd
ad infinitum.

I agree - that's kind of the point, I guess.

If you take the 49er roster and subtract Rice but add a pretty good wide reciever, they're still looking pretty good.

If you took a team that looked like the Patriots last year - pretty good, but lacking in recievers, and add a Jerry Rice, they look a lot better - but I doubt they go undefeated. I doubt they go 13-3.

From the bye week on, beginning Nov 18th, NE plays at Buffalo, at NYG, at Balt. Home with Phil, Pitt, Mia and NYJ.
At least 5 of those games it'll be freezing and/or snowing.
Moss played in a dome and in Oakland. How much impact will he have under those conditions?

Oakland got a FOURTH ROUND PICK for him. Fourth stinking round.

Don't get me wrong - he's a great player. I'm a GB fan, and was really hoping that he would end up there. But the OP was arguing that Moss will guarentee a Super Bowl, and that NE is a good bet to go undefeated. I'm not buying.

It amazes me that the Pats would want this guy. Didn't they learn anything from the Owens/Parcells debacle? At least you could argue that Owens played hard every down (when he was healthy). You can't say that about Moss, who takes plays off and does whatever he feels like. Odds of Moss helping are about equal to the odds Belichick has no hair by the end of the season.

Somebody made the point that he only get 10 touches a game as opposed to somebody else that would get 5. You have to realize though, not only does he get more touches, but he forces more defenders on him, opening up other teamates, and if there's anything that Brady can do, thats find the open receiver.

Moss ran a 4.29, and if he's actually motivated to show people that he's not all talk after a lackluster couple of years he may very well have the best season of his career.

On the other hand I was listening to Moss speak yesterday and he's obviously very selfish (duh). He never once mentioned the team being good, just himself. That's kind of scary, but if he plays for himself, and does well it helps the team.

He seems like an honest guy, selfish, but honest. He says what's on his mind, and doesn't have a PR guy telling him everything he should say. I remember the interview they did with him when he actually started crying, because he was trying to do the right thing but it never worked out. Hopefully for the Pat's sake he'll fall in-line, and has a great season. If he doesn't, then they're out a 4th round pick.
