Turning 20$ into something
i recently got 20$ from a friend on ftp...and this time i will try and make a valid effort at building it...cause every time i would deposit 100 i would lose it in 4 hours due to steaming and frustration of any bad beat....but my question is what do u guys think is the best way to go about turning 20$ into a decent roll....my only smart options are the dollar or 2 dollar sit and gos? right..anyway i just hope i dont lose this to cause i need to build a roll before im 18 when i move to vegas to play pro...later

Re: Turning 20$ into something
you might need a tad more than 20 bucks, there is a very high risk of ruin but id still try to build it at 10NL. get a hundo on there and grind grind grind.

Re: Turning 20$ into something
If you're spewing off a bill everytime you take a bad beat, 20 isn't going to get you much further.
Two words. Tilt management. |

Wouldn't be comfortable playing with just 2 buy-ins as holyfield suggests tho... |

Re: Turning 20$ into something
20 isn't a lot. knifeparty mentioned tilt management. Listen to that. Two rules of thumb that have kept me from going broke are this. Never buy into a game that is less than 20x's your bankroll and never lose more than 10% in a day. So you can buy into two $1 sit'n'go's, but if you lose them, you are done for the day. If you plan to go pro, you better start playing more live poker, it's completely different.

Re: Turning 20$ into something
On full tilt it's not so easy but I played on Paddy Power Poker (same software as doyles and VC) for a year and a half and started with $20. I started playing 50c stts and 60c mtts. After winning a couple of 60c mtts (between $40 and $70 for first place) I could then start the $2 and $5 stts. I then discovered the stt sattelites for the big money mtts and eventually qualified for a $60,000 guaranteed tourney and cashed around $1,000. Once you get the ball rolling id highly reccommend qualifying for some big mtts for a small fee. Full Tilt's smallest buy in being $1 presents a problem, the $1 stts are also turbo. I'd reccomend playing the $1 deep stack 90 man sng's, top 18 pays so you dont need that many buy ins. Good luck.
