Re: So I\'m addicted to nasal spray...
this is ridiculous. I was going to make the thread the other day. I have been using nasal spray since i was say 13 and im 23. if i dont have it when i go out i go into a panic. every 3 hours or so its like i have nose plugs on. I really think i need to see an ENT. It just seems impossible to get off of.

Re: So I\'m addicted to nasal spray...
Here's the strategy:
Prednisone for 12 days: 60mg first 2 days, 50mg next 2 days, 40, 30, 20, 10. The ENT guy observed that my nose is "97% occluded" which prompted the prednisone script. No side effects so far, but I fully expect the bloating and irritability, as I'm bloated and irritable most days anyway. Hope this works. |

If you have to resort to surgery, check out the guy I recommended as he does the no packing method which is infinitely beter. |

Well so far so good. Haven't had any congestion today and haven't used the spray since yesterday morning. [/ QUOTE ] I'm glad to hear it. The same treatment worked for me twice when I fell off the wagon. I like telling the story about what happened the first time I was addicted to the sprays so here it is: 21 yo and I'm addicted to the stuff for ~3 years. It hurt like hell every time I used the stuff but if I couldn't breathe thru my nose I'd go into a panic attack. Finally, I realize I'm in trouble so I go to the specialist who explains the problem and that he's got to reduce the swelling with an injection of steroids and then he leaves the room. I start thinking 'injection? injection? in the nose? HE'S GOING TO GIVE ME A NEEDLE IN THE NOSE? and I break into a cold sweat. Doc comes back in, sees me in a panic and tells me that I don't have to do it today and walks out again. I knew that if I didn't have it done right then I might not have the guts to come back for another year so I literally slapped myself a few times and let him give me the shots into the sinuses with a big ass needle. When he's done he says to me 'You must be Jewish'. 'How do you know?', I ask. 'If I tell a Jew he needs a needle in the nose he does just what you do. He knows that he needs it, he doesn't like it, but he will suffer and let the doctor do what is needed.' He then went on to say 'My best patient is a German. You tell a German he needs a needle in the nose and he will sit there like a brass statue and let you do whatever you want to him. My worst patient is a Puerto Rican. If I tell a Puerto Rican he needs a needle in the nose he runs out of the office crying and comes back the next day with 30 cousins and I have to explain the problem and cure to all of them.' That is true word for word and I'm still laughing over it 30+ years later. Lastly, let me recommend Ayr Nasal Gel. You can spread it directly into your sinuses w/ your pinkie if things get bad at it will loosen things up and it's non-addictive: |

Re: So I\'m addicted to nasal spray...
My wife uses nasonex. Makes her sneeze whenever she uses it, also makes her nose run. She never has to use OTC nasal sprays, though.
I think I'm experiencing a GI side effect from the prednisone. 3 trips to door number 2 in the past 90 minutes. The honker is jammed up now, too. Oh well. |

Re: So I\'m addicted to nasal spray...
I've been addicted to Afrin too.
The way I cured it was to use it only on one nostril for a week. This gave the other one time to recover. And then when the other one was going through rebound congestion I had the healed side to get me through. Rx: Afrin Spray Sig: Right nostril tid for 7 days. Dc. Make sure you are getting the good Sudafed that is now behind the pharmacy counter and not that crappy Sudafed PE. Without going into details PSE >>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>>>> PE |
