I'm not sure if this article has ever been posted here but I couldn't find it via a search.
On Being a Happy, Healthy, and Ethical Member of an Unhappy, Unhealthy, and Unethical Profession was written by Patrick J. Schiltz and is based on his personal experience as well as scientific studies. It discusses why lawyers are so unhappy, The "Game" they play, big firm culture and how to best ensure a fulfiling life in the legal profession. It is 81 pages long but well worth a read if that is the career in which you want to spend the rest of your LIFE. Link |

I will read this later. Thanks for the link.
It is good to note that it is 81 pages long with massive footnotes, so it's not nearly as big a read as it seems. |

I opened this PDF, and was astonished at its length. I have ton s of work to do. Nevertheless I read about 90% of it. Great stuff.

It was a great read.
For those of you with minimal time, I recommend just skimming the first 20-30 pages, where he talks about divorce rates, suicide, etc.. The really good stuff is later, when he explains big firm culture. |

i really want to read this and probably will after my 530-730 midterm tonite, but i'm sure he talks about the cut-throat mentality of large big city firms
i have relatives that have these kinds of jobs and yeah they say you really need to have a dog-eat-dog mentality...not everyone can handle the work load/intensity. |
