Why isn\'t every economist an Austrian?
The title basically sums it up. People on this forum--some with little to no formal economic knowledge--are able to see with such clarity the economic obviousness of Austrian economics and, following that, the obviousness of AC. So, why then, is not every economist, who undoubtedly has more economic knowledge than any of us, an Austrian, at least in their private lives?

Re: Why isn\'t every economist an Austrian?
Why would economists be naive? Wouldn't they be the least naive people about econ around? If you're going to argue the point, I would go with Propaganda or not being very familiar with Austrian econ.

[/ QUOTE ] Both of which are ludicrous. I think a more reasonable answer is that they don't feel ACism can work in the real world, or more specifically, it will produce more problems than having government. |

So, why then, is not every economist, who undoubtedly has more economic knowledge than any of us, an Austrian, at least in their private lives? [/ QUOTE ] "Economics is haunted by more fallacies than any other study known to man. This is no accident. The inherent difficulties of the subject would be great enough in any case, but they are multiplied a thousandfold by a factor that is insignificant in, say, physics, mathematics or medicine-the special pleading of selfish interests." --Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson, Chapter 1, page 1. I would argue, and in fact have argued, that the economic fallacies that arise due to the special pleading of selfish interests can indeed infect others fields, when those fields are funded by an agency with the power to forceably interfere in the economy with artifical economy "policy." |
