This is very depressing for the casual/recreational player looking to make some money in this ocean of sharks.

[/ QUOTE ]

If less than 10% are winning, then I would hardly describe poker as an ocean of sharks.

What kills the moderately skilled casual player is the rake and lack of bankroll management.

What kills the moderately skilled casual player is the inability to fold KK when villian obviously has AA.

pretty sure the 10% figure refers to anyone who has deposited money. the % of active players who are winners is likely significantly higher because the losers stop playing pretty quickly usually while the winners obv keep playing. when you join a table, >10% of the players at that table are winners.

7% of winning players is probably about right. But that certainly doesnt make it 7% of players making a living playing online poker. Over half of those winners are likely just part time, 2 or 3 times a year cashout for a nice dinner type players.

One thing is nearly certain. If you sit with a player claiming to make a living playing online poker, he doesn't.

I think the better question is, when I sit down at Stars, what % of people logged in at XYZ time are winning players? I would be shocked if it was less than 25 %

10% is a way to high, my PT says 4,7% of the players (with over 10k hands played) are significant winning players. (over 0,5BB/100)
