Default Male vs. Female in various sports..

The Williams sisters vs. Federer debate got me thinking about what it would take to come up with a fair matchup in all sports. How many women in each of the following does it take before it's an even matchup?

Basketball
Baseball
Football
Hockey
Golf
MMA

The disparity between men and women seems greatest in a game like basketball (if you've ever watched the WNBA, you'll know what I mean). And yet, an addditional player on offense is huge. I'm guessing 6 vs. 5, the men are favored, 7 vs. 5 it swings to women. Too many easy layups for the men to stop.

In baseball, I'm not sure if you can even overcome the power advantage of men. You can put enough bodies in the field to turn it into a homerun contest, but even then, I think the men might still win. I think at 20 vs. 9, the women might be favored, but men might have the edge vs. any number of women.

Football is another where power might be too much to overcome. You can build a protective bubble of bodies around the female quarterback and give her 25 receivers on offense. And on defense, there is a finite number of bodies with flailing arms that stops any NFL team. I'm thinking maybe 40. This would certainly be the most fun to watch and involve the most unique strategy on the female side.

Hockey is probably similar to basketball and not that interesting. There has already been a female goaltender in the NHL, who was terrible, but at least close to competitive. Not sure about the other positions. 6 vs. 5 is definitely not enough, 7 probably makes it close, and it might be 8 vs. 5 before it's balanced.

The rules would be different than the normal game, obviously. How would 2 women scrambling do at the same tees as Tiger?

I truly have no idea how a 2 vs. 1 matchup would go down, but I'd definitely spend $39.95 to see it.

Hockey would have to be more than 7-5. A female goalie is a much different thing than a female skater. Watch the olympics - the Canadian women's team looks like a decent boys' high school team.

no way, guys like Kobe are going to have 3-5" on every woman, much faster, athletic and would score at will

on defense the massive size will make getting shots off tough, I assume there is the NBA 24sec clock

I would pay good money to see almost any of these games.

The football game would be hilarious.

Lets make it happen.
Donald Trump, Vince McMahon, Mark Cuban, Richard Branson and Rupert Murdoch all get their various promotional talents or money together and arrange for the Dallas Mavs to take on a team of 8 top womens' players with large enough stakes to the winners that both sides will be playing their hearts out.

Same goes for arranging a team of 40 or 50 women to take on the Colts or the Bears.

This would be SOOOOO awesome.

I'll kick in a few hundred bucks and force my wife to put on some pads and hit the field.

I believe this case was already dealt with in a Federal Courtroom. Mike can't do it again, remember double jeoperdy laws.

I've seen a women's football team practice here in Saint Louis which is in some sort of league (maybe some sort of semi-pro thing, not sure). Anyway, I think it'd take more than 40 women to stop an NFL team. Unless you have some equally tall women, I think the QB could just lob it to a receiver for a first down every time.

I can't actually believe you're giving these good of odds to the men. In all non-strength related sports (i.e. curling, horseshoes, dishwashing), the field is a lot closer, but the big North American sports?

There should be a 2:1 ratio of women to men for hockey, basketball, and football... at the very least. The men are faster, more coordinated, stronger, and are just better. Baseball's a bit different, but the women wuold need a substantial advantage, depending on the format (softball or baseball, bat and glove sizes, diamond size).
