Shorthanded in the BB
Poker Stars
Limit Holdem Ring game Limit: $0.25/$0.5 10 players Converter I was not at the table long enough for a good read of either villain but I know they are both loose from what I've seen so far. Edit: I double-checked and I actually had about 35 hands on this button at this point and he was 50/25/1.5 and had made a good amount of money so far. Also MP1 was 80+ VPIP, does this change any opinions? Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is BB with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]; 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]; 3 folds, MP1 calls, 3 folds, Button raises, SB folds, Hero calls, MP1 calls. Flop: A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]; J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]; 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]; (6.4SB, 3 players) Hero checks, MP1 checks, Button bets, Hero calls, MP1 calls. 1)Should I be checking this flop from early position? 2)Once I did check and the button bets should I be calling, raising, or folding? Turn: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]; (4.7BB, 3 players) Hero checks, MP1 checks, Button bets, Hero calls, MP1 folds. 3)What do you think about the turn? At this point I figure I am in a WA/WB position and so I play it accordingly. Is this the right thinking or do I not have enough information to make this assumption? ...Thanks |

Re: Shorthanded in the BB
Fold PF. You're horribly dominated most of the time. This is even more true as you're new to the table and have no idea whether he's blindstealing with any crap or simply raising his AKs for value.
On the flop, I fold. It's not worth the troubles. As played, b/f river. |

Re: Shorthanded in the BB
Fold preflop.
On the flop I might go for a c/r and if villain just calls (after MP1 hopefully folded rather than called two cold) I lead the turn. If villain 3bets my raise on the flop I c/f the turn. |

Re: Shorthanded in the BB
Agreed. If you want to stay in the hand, c/r to try to get it HU. But most times, you'll just be throwing good money after bad.

Re: Shorthanded in the BB
That's right. That's why hands like that should be folded PF in an instant.
But once we flop top pair in a raised pot, we should fight for it. Or is it just not worth it in this situation? |

Re: Shorthanded in the BB
SSHE p. 266. And he's talking about an unraised pot.
If this were HU, villain a known blindstealer and the flop was AJJ, there's a case for calling down as you'll often chop, but here, just drop it. If noone's got an ace this time, someone will have for the next 684 times a situation like this comes up. |

Re: Shorthanded in the BB
Yeah your advice seems very sound to me.
But what about Ed Miller's "why you aren't crushing microlimit" post? It contains an example about NOT folding TPNK in a similar situation to OP's hand. The pot is large enough to justify aggressive play IMO. |

Re: Shorthanded in the BB
Fold PF.
Once you get to the flop (pretend you had A3s instead of A3o), I think check-call flop/turn/river is the right play, especially vs this guy. |

[/ QUOTE ] He is also talking about a flop that is 6 handed, 2 suited, where there are no redraws for hero, and hero is the first to face 2 bets cold. Terrible example [ QUOTE ] If this were HU, villain a known blindstealer and the flop was AJJ, there's a case for calling down as you'll often chop, but here, just drop it. [/ QUOTE ] You really feel that in a 3 handed flop with a 82% VPIP calling and then a 50/25/1.5 raising on the button that villains continuation bet on the flop is an ace almost 100% of the time? |
