Top Pair, bet the river?
Villain had VP$IP in 15 of the last 30 hands (which was all the data I had) and was ultra-unagressive postflop.
Pacific Poker Limit Holdem Ring game Limit: $0.25/$0.5 10 players Converter Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is UTG+2 with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 folds, Hero raises, villain calls, 4 folds, SB calls, BB calls. Flop: 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (8SB, 4 players) SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, villain calls, SB calls, BB calls. Turn: 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (6BB, 4 players) SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, villain calls, SB calls, BB calls. River: Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (10BB, 4 players) SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, villain bets, SB calls, BB folds, Hero calls. Results: Final pot: 13BB I raised preflop to get the one decent player at the table to fold knowing most honks at the table would call anyway. Do you bet this river? At this point I wasn't expecting worse hands to call and didn't want to give the opportunity to raise. |

Re: Top Pair, bet the river?
Have you seen him donk the river before if checked to? Have you seen him raise TPmK (let's say) before?
If "ultra-unagressive" is to mean "passive", I'd bet. Often he'll not have the Q but will make a crying call with 8x, Jx and if he happens to have a Q, there's a good chance that he'll just call this one as he's to passive to raise Q7 (let's say). If he indeed does raise you, you can be reasonably sure to be beaten and can fold. If you have seen him bluff the river, then a c/c definitely makes sense, though, trying to induce a bluff. So, it's b/f > b/c > c/c >> c/f, I'd say. |

Re: Top Pair, bet the river?
He's not going to be able to raise you with a Q so just bet. Don't be worried about money that calls. Worry about it when it bets and raises.

I bet this. Seeing you check, he'll bet the river with an 8.

:grunch:
this looks like stanard play to me. i think you're calling his bet on the river. Yeah, if that Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] made his hand, fine, you're beat, but it's a big pot (due to all the players) and you've bet all the other streets. I don't think you're folding to a single bet. But I wouldn't raise him either. Your hand isn't that huge and although it beats the other two-pairs on the board, it doesn't beat any trips that might have fallen. You *could* raise him here, but be prepared to fold if he 3bets you. |

[/ QUOTE ] How often do you think he'll pay off your raise with a hand you beat and how often will he 3bet you with a hand that beats yours? Raising is pretty much out, imho. You don't win more if you're ahead but def loose more if behind. |

Bet the river. [/ QUOTE ] The pot's protected isn't it? Does the Villain bet this river without a 4 or Q, knowing he has to beat the SB as well as the Hero? |
