Yes, I know. I'm quite the procrastinator.

David,

What kind of mathematical edge should Daniel Negreanu be willing to give up on the first hand of the ME in an AIPF decision?

The question is pretty clear, and based on basic theory it's obvious AK vs 22 is a pass, and it's also been argued by some (whose opinions you seemed to wave off) that passing up a 55/45 is incorrect. How big of an edge are you saying passing up is +$EV while obv -cEV?

It depends mainly on the strength of the players at your table.

Okay, then assume a normal ME opening table.

A number of bad-to-decent online qualifiers, a couple rich gamblers, and some Vegas grinders. 9 others of varying strength consistent with a regular table at the tournament.

It does seem like you're sidestepping giving any kind of a rough figure.

Two queens against AK offsuit is about borderline.

It's an interesting concept here, but there still hasn't been any real quantification on what kind of edges should be passed up and which should be taken, in actual practice.

I can definately undertand passing up a perceived 55-45 flip for a large percentage of my chips at a table in which I am one of the strongest players. Once I get to 60 percent equity I have a very hard time releasing even against a very bad player, unless I'm heads up (my particular specialty). Getting 2-to-1 I'm certainly playing.

Why? Because it seems like common sense, but that's a long way from having a mathematical justification for it.

Also, some players' style will allow them to play big stacks better than others (even assuming equal skill in the game overall). In their case, wouldn't taking some greater level of marginal +EV situations for big pots early on (for the sake of accumulation) play more to their strengths?

Uh, the books been out for six months.

[/ QUOTE ]Excellent as usual, btw. Reading this made me realize I really didn't know what I was doing at NL HE, especially with any kind of deep stacks. And I think most MTTers do not realize how valuable a resource it is.

I *think* more specifically, it's because William Chen is the only one he believes could be smarter than himself.

Yes, DS is an arrogant S.O.B.

"You are wrong. The thing is though that Daniel would agree and not care. If his style takes a lot of money out of the pocket of a few players while simultaneously putting a little bit in the pockets of others, so what?

We devote quite a few words to this exact topic in NLTAP.

I forgot the power of position. But he would win more money in position than he would lose out of position against most players, or am i wrong again?
