flop decision

borgata 20/40 - great game, playing v. loose and kinda aggro at times

5 limpers to me in the sb with AQo, I'm have a solid image and have shown down mostly premium hands. I raise, bb and all the limpers call.

flop is A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] - 14 sbs

two questions...

love/hate the preflop raise?

anybody like going for a flop check/raise here?

thoughts appreciated.

I'd raise pre-flop and bet the flop.

PFR is fine, I'd make it maybe 50-75% of the time, depending on the lineup.

This is a clear flop bet IMO. If nobody has anything to call with, fine. Just be happy to take it down. I see no reason to get tricky here. I'd also bet if I raised with KQs, KJs, TT, etc.

If I didn't raise PF, I'd be much more inclined to check the flop.

This I agree with.

Also, once someone calls your flop bet on this board you can c/r the turn which is always fun.

This is such a dry board, I think bet/3bet is much better.

I raise this pf 100% of the time. Bet flop, no one will bet it for you unless they have an ace and in that case they will likely raise to see if you have KK or QQ, etc. Your choice between 3 betting or cr turn. I dont think it makes a huge difference overall. The flop bet gives you more options on turn than a whiffed flop cr. If they fold they fold.

I don't make this PFR very often. In a large multi-way (7-ways if the BB doesn't fold) pot, AQo doesn't stand up as well. It's a hand that does best against fewer players. I think with 2 limpers it's a raise; with 5 it's a complete.

Checking the flop would be fine if you could depend on someone in LP to bet it; but like R.D. said this is a dry flop and it makes sense to just go ahead and bet it (something I'd do even if I limped pre).

I think this would be a good place to discuss the pf line, because I suspect that there are differing opinions. I raise in this spot every time because I believe I have the best hand or close enough to it to make this raise profitable. Think about how much you are losing when dry flops come down like this and how little you are losing if a horrible flop comes down and u can check fold, or check call.

Also I think that most mistakes made in lhe are made pf. I like taking advantage of those mistakes.
