Requesting to see mucked cards at showdown?
I was wondering if there is any type of rule about this, or is it cardroom specific? The reason I ask is because this rule is in place to pervent collusion(please correct me if I'm wrong), and I've been asked to show my cards in heads up pots from people not involved in the hand. Nothing really irritates me at the poker table except when some guy asks to see my hand just because he wants to know what I played that way. I'd really rather not share how I play if I can avoid it.
Should I just ask a floorman when I arrive on the house's specific rules concerning this? |

Re: Requesting to see mucked cards at showdown?
If it's excessive, you can notify the Floor and have it stopped, the player(s) in question have NO right to the information and are using a rule incorrectly to gain information they wouldn't have had.
Another angle (pun intended) is to abuse the player asking to see the cards with a quip along the lines, "sure, you can see 'em, you must be the only one at the table who doesn't already know what I have." I admit this gets to me as well, but I'm finding ways to deal with it, instead of letting it affect my game. |

Re: Requesting to see mucked cards at showdown?
Varies by casino.
Usually, only players involved in the hand at showdown may ask to see a called hand. However, some casinos allow any player at the table to see any hand that went to showdown. Best bet would bee to ask about house rules. |

Re: Requesting to see mucked cards at showdown?
I hear the rule was originally written to prevent colusion.
The way it's used (and written?) now people use it for info on how you play. Some floor people will rule that if you don't suspect colusion you can't see the cards. Or if you don't keep your cards available to see also you can't see the cards. Maybe the rule needs to be changed so the floor can just rule according to the book. |

This was something I never understood. Online, you get to see everything at showdown. Unless of course it wasn't heads up. I think the same should be in real life. This is especially true since many players do now know showdown rules and are showing hands out of turn and out of fashion. This means that as long as I wait on my hand, guarantee somebody else will show first, and if they win, I'll muck, even though I should have shown first.
I think heads up in showdowns, if somebody wants it, they should be able to get it, unless casinos start enforcing the order that people show. |

Re: Requesting to see mucked cards at showdown?
A lot of the Vegas casinos have the rules posted. Most of the ones I play at allow any player that was dealt in to the hand ask to see. You can do what I've seen some people do - even after it's been asked that the hand be shown, they'll fire the cards into the muck. The dealer usually says nothing.

Should I just ask a floorman when I arrive on the house's specific rules concerning this? [/ QUOTE ] Always check with the floor as to what the exact rules. For instance, Wynn doesn't allow it whatsoever. Dealers will flat out tell you, "Sorry, it's not allowed here" and then go on. The only thing you can do is tell the dealer first "Dealer, I think they're colluding, call the floor because I want to see both hands" and that floor wlll ask you to prove why you suspect collusion before they'll even considering turning up a hand. By this time, you'v alienated almost every player at the table for stalling the game. You'll be ostracized. |

Re: Requesting to see mucked cards at showdown?
I was at the El Dorado and I mucked my hand, as in I actually threw it in to the muck, and some schmuck asked to see it. I obviously didn't like the prospect of this guy seeing it but it turns out it is the rule of the casino. He did not get to see that hand because my hand was already actually in the muck and unretreivable.
Half an hour later I am all in and lose, and I see the same guy about to ask to see my hand, so I look straight at him and throw my hand directly in the muck again preventing him from seeing them. |
