Re: My friend got into big trouble
[ QUOTE ]
What you say might be true Jonhnny, but that doesn't change the fact that when you play poker you're actually contributing to the degeneration of those people. You're right that the same goes for the casinos, but at least that's not because of my doings. Note that I'm ofcourse overexaggerating because it doesn't make a jack difference whether you and I are playing or not, those people would still lose money. Not more not less, but it's just that I feel somewhat responsible for that when I play poker. [/ QUOTE ] I am in no way contributing to their degeneration. If I were calling them up and asking them to play? Probably so. But I am not. I am sitting down at a table with a stack of my own money, and giving them a fair shot at winning some of it. In return, I get a fair shot at winning some of theirs. That is all I am doing. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] -when you vote Republican you contribute to eradicating terrorism [/ QUOTE ] FYP [/ QUOTE ] No offense but that is the phunniest chit I have seen today... P.S. Harry Potter is not based on a true story. Edit: BigPoppa helped you out there. [/ QUOTE ] The more I think about it, you're right. I think we all can agree that we would be a lot safer if we could just have Hillary Clinton, Barney Frank, and Nancy Pelosi in charge of our safety. That would scare the terrorists! |

Sorry for your friend, but if it wasn't poker he probably would have found some other way to [censored] his life up.

Political content deleted because BigPoppa said it more succinctly than me.

Re: My friend got into big trouble
[ QUOTE ]
Sorry for your friend, but if it wasn't poker he probably would have found some other way to [censored] his life up. [/ QUOTE ] The thing is, I dont think you're right. He had few of the other symptoms of a self-destructive life--no drugs or drinking to excess. He did have a fondness for strip clubs, and in the midst of his poker degeneracy, he ended up dating a series of strippers/hookers. I know the OOT crowd here will disagree, but nothing good can come from dating strippers; I'm a criminal defense lawyer, and I'd say that strippers or hookers feature prominently in about 20% of my clients (and we only deal with rich, white collar clients)... [ QUOTE ] When he's sniffing solvents under a bridge after selling one of his kidneys to cover golf bets, then you'll have a story. This guy is minor league, another gambling junkie living in his parent's garrage .... This guy just needs a kick in the nuts. [/ QUOTE ] Absolutely right. There is no ethical issue with privileged, advantaged, educated, and relatively affluent people taking their money and flushing it down the toilet. Despite being the guy's friend, I have remarkably little sympathy for him. On the other hand, I suspect that the 2+2 crowd is probably a little smarter than average, and more educated than average, and more self-confident than average, and so the purpose of my post was just to express surprise that it had happened to "one of us." As I was telling a different 2+2er over IM the other night, I knew I was taking poker a little too seriously when I was 4-tabling Full Tilt, had monster hands on two tables, my extremely pregnant wife came up to me and complained of painful contractions, and I told her: "Hang on a sec honey, Im in a hand." I took some time off the game after that one. |

Slick...the terrorists aren't afraid now...they're willing to phucking die! Kinda tough to scare that cat. Anyway, John Wayne Bush has pretty much ensured we'll have a pretty hefty supply of psychos for the next few decades. I have a feeling little orphan one-armed Habib might want to make a bigger statement than casting a vote when he's all growed up. "No hard feeling little man. We liberated you!" |
