Re: Favorite US Museum?
the national gallery of art in washington, DC is my favorite museum. it has a healthy collection of impressionists and a lot of mid-19th century american art (modernism? I'm not an art buff).

Re: Favorite US Museum?
The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. More art per room than any museum I've been to. You need to make an appointment to go as parking is severely limited. Each room was arranged by the founder and his will requires that the works continue to be displayed as he left them. This is my personal favorite from the collection:

I haven't really been to many overall, but the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is probably my favorite.

Smithsonian (DC--is this even fair?) [/ QUOTE ] I found the Smithsonian to be quite a letdown when I was in DC a couple years ago. Seemed to be aimed squarely at 8 yr olds. |

The art institute in chicago is my favorite. The national air and space museum is great also. And then for one that nobodies ever heard of: the oriental institute in chicago is a small but great museum, which due to the looting in Iraq, might have the best collection of middle eastern artifacts anywhere.

I like the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Then again, I am a sucker for impressionism.
