basic top pair in a blind 2/4
Just getting back into six max after playing mostly stud8.
Seems pretty basic to me - but I wondered if I was giving up value Villain is average preflop, plays 1/3 of hands, raises half of what he plays. Aggesive postflop. PokerStars 2/4 Hold'em (4 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com Preflop: Hero is BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. UTG raises, 2 folds, Hero calls. Re: basic top pair in a blind 2/4
no history against this guy? does he fail to cont-bet HU often? his range is huge (semi-aggressive, stealing from CO), he probably either has you drawing to 3 outs or you have him drawing to 2-3 outs or runners. it would be weird for him to pull this with a split pair of sevens or sixes.
after he checks the flop I think it's huge to just show down. I would almost always check/call the turn against this guy because I don't think it's very important to protect this hand and I think he's a lot more likely to bet K or J hi than he is to call with them. the river is either a check/call or bet/call for the standard reasons, depending on opponents tendencies. |

[/ QUOTE ] the reason i advocate betting the turn is not to protect our hand, but to get value out of UTG's wide range of holdings. the average 2/4 player will probably call us down with pocket pairs and maybe worse hands that he doesn't necessarily bet. but a more detailed read on the villain could change the decision. |

Re: basic top pair in a blind 2/4
He is highly aggresive, and I hadn't not seen him cont. bet yet.
I was planning on c/r'ing the flop, and then lead the turn. When he checked behind, I thought he might have a monster, or air. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think I agree with you 100% as far as analysis of the situation goes. However, I rarely encounter a player that will raise PF and then check behind flop + turn HU on an A-hi board. I don't think this will check through very often. |
