So What About Iran?
Sure seems like a military showdown is inevitable. Iran claims it is only enriching uranium for the generation of power. Just about everybody else says bull. Iran keeps threatening Israel and seems to want some kind of showdown with the U.S. Our leaders are apparently planning a bombing campaign and, while taking out Iran's supposed nuclear workshops, will also be trying for regime change.
Is there any way out of this impasse? |

From this morning's New York Times: [ QUOTE ] Tehran says its nuclear program is entirely peaceful and meant for producing nuclear power. Is there any way out of this impasse? [/ QUOTE ] Maybe, but it won't happen. I see the exact same things in the media right now that I did in the spring before we went into Iraq. It seems like the media is foaming at the mouth and wants war. Bush is a hawk and Israel feels threatened. Israel can concievable force us into action by threatening action themself. War with Iran would be a quick fix for Bush's political problems. By the end of the year the war drum will be beating at full fury. |

[ QUOTE ] War with Iran would be a quick fix for Bush's political problems. [/ QUOTE ] You'll have to explain this one to me. . . [/ QUOTE ] The country will initially rally around the president if the media continues to scare them with the Iranian threat. The first phases of the war will go remarkably well because of how over matched Iran is compared to us and expectations will be low because of Iraq. So initially it will look like Bush is a genius again until the long term problems start to manifest. I say it would give him a year reprive. The six months of the war run up and six months of the actual conflict and immediate aftermath. |

Any possibility of surgical strikes without occupation? [/ QUOTE ] The rumor right now is air strikes with regime change. The regime change would be done like it was in Afghanistan. Special forces working with locals to form a coup. Air strikes to take out the nuclear sites and Iran's conventional weapons. |
