I'm a Wes Anderson fan, but I had read a couple negative reviews of this movie so I had set my expectations low. Thus, it was a slight surprise to me that I absolutely LOVED this movie. Visually it's very engaging throughout, and the performances from Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and yes, Jason Schwartzman, were all top-notch. It's a cool story, melancholy without being sappy, and hilarious at times. Cameos by Bill Murray and Natalie Portman (I believe a short film was made based on the Schwartzman and Portman's story, I haven't seen it).
My new Wes Anderson film ranking: 1. Rushmore 2. The Darjeeling Limited 3. Bottle Rocket 4. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 5. The Royal Tenenbaums |

Short is entitled "The Hotel Chevalier" and it's a free download on iTunes. Really well done, AND Natalie Portman gets way naked for a substantial portion.
She's got a great ass. No boobies shown, though. Ok, back on topic. I'm really looking forward to seeing The Darjeeling Limited, but it's playing in like two theatres way out in the 'burbs in Chicago. WTF? |

Cool LFS...I didn't think much of the short but I'm looking forward to the movie. Boss is in London so think I'll spend catchn up on my movies at the arclight this week.
Mon: Michael Clayton Tue: Darjeeling Limited Wends: Eastern Promises Thurs: Assassination of Jesse James Fri: Lars and The Real Girl Sat: Rendition should be a good week. |

One unrelated thing I forgot to mention: I saw Duran Duran and Power Station bass player John Taylor at the Arclight. On Friday I saw Journey legend Steve Perry at a breakfast joint in the Valley. I may go hang around the supermarket all day in the hope/expectation that I may see another 80's rock superstar and go three-for-three.

Yay! I'm so glad to hear this. I also liked LA:SZ so I was assuming all the bad reviews were just the usual movie critics retard shenanigans.
1. Royal T 2. Life Aqautic 3. Rushmore 4. Bottle R. New List TBA next weekend. |

Hmmm... I'd like to see what anyone with similar tastes to mine thinks. My top 3 are all pretty close (probably Rushmore, Royal T, Bottle Rocket, but the last two are a tossup), but I thought Life Aquatic was a real letdown and not especially interesting. It left me worried that Wes Anderson & Co. were running out of good ideas. I'm interested to see if this is or is not the case.

saw it today, was pleasantly surprised. the first 30 minutes or so are insanely good - witty, surprising, whatever, wes anderson at his best. gets a little boring after that, thank god its only 91 minutes long.
