Plan of attack vs. Electric company?
So a month and a half ago I got a new apartment. I lived in the apartment for the last five days in august. When I got my electric bill from Con Ed I was charged 194.00 for those last five days.
I contested it, but apparently there is some “hazardous condition” in the basement of the building and the electric company is unable to access the meters. So they estimate the charge. They won’t tell me what the condition is as they can only speak to the landlord, and they won’t let me read the meter for them. Now I’ve contacted my landlord like 10 times to get this check out, according to him they conditions were fixed and they need to contact him. I’ve gone back and forth with both groups quite a bit and am fed up. Anyone had any similar problems like this and got some suggestions? |

Re: Plan of attack vs. Electric company?
don't pay it until they can prove you owe the money. If they send it to collections, write the collections agency, and it'll get taken off your credit score. We actually have pretty decent laws in this country if you bother to use them.

contact the public utility commission and/or the attorney general of your state's office. [/ QUOTE ] Word. Most states have a "I've been screwed website or hotline" to the DA of the state. Use it and don't pay. |

Re: Plan of attack vs. Electric company?
Apparently, the hazardous condition as reported by the meter man is "fleas".
I really don't understand at what point fleas become hazardous? Plus I've been in the basement, and while it is a cesspool, there weren't any bugs that I saw. |

I am sure there are other possible diseases and parasites that it can carry. So they could potentially be a hazard. |
