Hi guys, i need some insight.
Hi, this is my first post here, so I apologize if I am making any mistakes. I started playing poker 2 years ago, and kept doing free rolls until I finally won 2$ in the poker stars PPA free rolls back in march. From there I played the 2cent/4cent limit games, and slowly built up some money to play with. By July I had 250$ in my account, and was playing at .50$/1$ games. Since then however I went on a big losing streak, and now only have 60$ left. I used some of the Fpp's I had earned to get SSHE from poker stars. I will admit that I an not the greatest player out there, but I know that I should have more money in my account than I have right now. I purchased the book so that I could improve my understanding of the game, and I will admit there are many things in the book that helped. But one problem that I have with the book is that the main idea behind it is a guide to crushing loose games and amateur opponents. Although the opponents are amateur, there is not a single game on pokerstars that qualifies as "loose" ( more than 5 people on the flop). Although this does happen sometimes, the majority of the time, everyone folds, someone raises preflop, and it becomes a heads up match or threeway. This is where I struggle the most. At the rate I am going, It will take me many years to build up a bankroll that is good enough to play for even 2$/4$ or 3$/6$ games, which is where I want to be. Right now, I am forced to play at .25/.50 due to my low bankroll. Since I am a college student, I cant afford to deposit large amounts of money to play with, so it seems to me like there is no way for me to make a reasonable profit playing poker. I have a very good mentality towards poker and have great discipline, but even with all of this it doesn't seem to be working. I would just like to know how some other people got started, and maybe you could send me some suggestions that would help get me out of the microstakes and become able to compete at the small stakes. Also, if there is anything wrong about my mentality, feel free to tell me so. Thanks alot.

Re: Hi guys, i need some insight.
Not to be rude but, dude, paragraphs.
Many are saying that SSHE might not be applicable for online games anymore. The general consensus is that you should read "Winning in Tough Holdem Games" and maybe "Internet Texas Holdem" for online games. (I haven't finished WITHG, and never read ITH, so... grain of salt.) |

Re: Hi guys, i need some insight.
I think that your best bet is to participate in the Micro Limit Forum. There are many players there that have the same concerns that you do. There are also a large number of very good and experienced players that post there even though they don't usually play at those limits.
Welcome to the forums. |

Re: Hi guys, i need some insight.
Keep working your bankroll and learning the game. If you are not 21 yet, beat a .50/1 dorm game. Get poker tracker, and think about what happens and WHY it happens and WHY you make the decisions you make. Online games get tougher and tougher all the time, 3/6 online plays as tough as 10/20 live. The small stakes book is a great book as soon as you get to the casino. You will have a blast playing live. I dont play online anymore, just live. It's very hard to make hay with $60.00, so think of it as a learning proccess. GO TO THE CASINO!!!!! Online is the best way to learn, but it is much more fun to have a big edge when you sit in a game. It is just a stupid game, and a lot of VERY good players are broke 1/2 the time. Good luck (it DOES help alot)and enjoy your journy.

Re: Hi guys, i need some insight.
Online games are not as loose anymore because people like me are not smart enough to figure out how to deposit money.
Breaks in your post do make it a lot easier to read. Any seriously, Netteller, Firepay... |

Re: Hi guys, i need some insight.
Ok thanks for the help, I will post this in the micro board. In response to peetar69, i am not 21 yet unfortunately, which is very annoying because I live right outside of Atlantic City. (I was a blackjack dealer at trump marina last year).
Are casino games that much easier than live? And also, i looked in to poker tracker a while back, and it costs money. Is this correct? Should i wait for my bankroll to increase, or is it really a necessity right now?, because Im not in the mood to go buy stuff. Thanks |

Are casino games that much easier than live? [/ QUOTE ] Live games in casinos and cardrooms are so much easier than online, that it really can't be expressed. If you are going to play online, pokertracker, will pay for itself in a short time, even if you only use it to find your own leaks. When you start using it to find other peoples leaks, and exploiting those, I think it probably pays for itself every week. Maybe every month if you are playing .50/1.00. |
